One additional question. I just received a new Fuel line from my fuel pump to my carburetor, however, this is copper colored. Is this correct? should this not be silver colored? If so, any suggestions where I can get the correct fuel line?

Thanks again, Chris

Use a magnet. It should be copper coated steel.

I think this engine is late '55 but still the 1955 model year (before August)?

It has a '54 fuel pump. 55s don't have the screw in the bottom half, just a boss there with no screw.
Mid-late '55s have the oil filler with the cap
Nice find on the thumbscrew air cleaner!
Nice spring clip distributor too

Wrong exhaust but I'd run it. Smile

Along those lines. If you want to ditch that exhaust, let me know. I have the perfect car for it.

No screw hole for the later oil filler, so it’s the correct one. The dizzy, fuel pump (wavy top) came with it when I got it from dry storage. Took an hour to seperate the top and bottom on the fuel pump so I’m guessing it hadn’t ever been apart.
I have a couple of wire clip distributors too.

The exhaust is a 50s Aussie only lukey that I’ll repair and run, otherwise it would have a single tip on it.

For general reference, -20-1081288 is June, 1955

Cool, thanks for the info that it's not drilled, I was wondering when that started and though it was earlier in 1955.

Is the generator/regulator/coil/etc. all dated around 6/55?

I believe that 55 calendar year progressed thru at least three types of fuel pump bottoms. '55 Started with a screw on the bottom, then screw boss without the port being machined and eventually the base with no screw provision in the casting by approximately the time the 56 model year started. I really don't think it's so simple as to say "All 55s should have the screw boss casting, but not machined". The 55 model year was all about progressive refinement and change

Mid 55 fuelpump with the non machined screw casting is one of the rarest fuel pumps around, I believe it was likely only made for a few months at most.

Yes it’s a thin lip pulley, with a nos 3 piece gen pulley (kept the original one still), and also has the finger on the front crank tinware. I have tried to find if they are correct, but in Australia, we got all sorts of mismatching things compared to other countries.

Considering Australia only started getting vws in 54, so any 25hp in this country is hens teeth if you could could ever find one. But I’ve had a few finger crank tinware and thinlip pulleys in my collection.

Yes, I totally agree with you it's not that clear, I think early 55s - Jan/Feb/maybe slightly longer still had the screw.
My text above was confusing as I thought he had a late 1955 engine but after searching the site a bit for past posts, I'm not absolutely 100% sure he would have the boss only for a June engine.

The "56" style pump wasn't brought in until 15 Feb. 1956 as I believe this is the change in Progressive Refinements:

I know earlier in this thread I posted this 54 vs. 55 pump question as I couldn't find a reference to this in Progressive Refinements. A few members listed some engines they had with and without the screws and the fuel pump serial #s. Page 13.

That’s another thread on pulleys.

As I’ve mentioned, Australia had random parts used throughout the years also, so hard to clarify what’s correct. All the feedback is grey thoz
