Been a while! Too keep things short, my kids are all moved out and my wife was talking the other day how she missed that old Beetle I used to have. Got an alleyway behind my shop to store a project, so I've been on the lookout for an oval to hammer on. Saw this on in the Classifieds, real close to where I live:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2650061
As you can see, it's been scrunched in the front and back, and these areas aren't salvageable but I can still work with it. Based purely on the photos (I haven't gone and seen in yet), I'd cut the front clip off behind the fuel tank and weld in some fresh metal, and for the rear I'd knock out the whole wheel well panels and everything behind them and replace with fresh metal.
VW metal is plentiful in these parts, but for a 1957, what years are interchangeable that I should be scouring the junkyards and backyards for?

Are you leaning towards a perfect car with year correct panels or Frankenstein. Most of the sheet metal out in the marketplace can be used, you just have to modify it to work. Best bet is to buy a front and rear clip. Then you get an OG part and a few extras!

that rear shunt looks hefty to me - surely the frame horns could be bent Rolling Eyes

Not looking for year correct, just proper fit up. Want to check for sheet metal in a few of the local haunts (which there are less and less of...) to get an idea of what I'm looking at for replacement metal cost.
EDIT: Actually, year correct on the visual items, like the aprons which I'll probably by repros of. But the quarter panels, just fit up.

Probably. Haven't crawled under it yet, but I will be factoring frame work into my negotiations based on what I see under there.

RUN...RUN FAST!! That is a lot of money for a pan job. What does the title match the pan or the body? TBH that is only worth the sum of the usable parts which are very few. MAYBE be able to use as a baja or drag bug project if it was priced appropriately.

Be patient, a regular oval sedan is not that hard to come by and for $4K you can find a decent project.
