I'm trying to restore my 64 bug, the kid I bought it from put a swing axle gear reduction bus rear end in it. As soon as I get a bug swing axle I want to sell the bus trans axle but I don't know how much to sell it for. Could anyone help me. THANX |

Sell it for what it's worth. Seriously, there are a few ways to approach it...
1. Sell it on ebay. You'll get whatever the people looking on ebay will pay for it.
2. Sell it for the price you got your Beetle transmission for.
3. Sell it for a pittance, like $10 or something.
4. Give it away.
Look at the classifieds. It sounds like you don't really know the history of the tranmission. IMO, only a crazy person would buy a transmission without knowing the full history of it. Unless you've got a rebuilt Rancho transmission, it's probably not worth a whole lot. |

You have a limited market as you pretty much have to sell it locally. They are not worth it to ship. If you are unsure of the condition, be happy if you get $100 for it, if it is a big nut, maybe a little more. _________________ The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge

Unless I actually drive thecar with the tranny installed, I have to assume it is a core. It may be a drivable tranny, but have issues that I would rather not hassle with installing a trans to find out about. It could pop out of gear, whine, howl or grumble. I guess a core trans is worth ~$50-100. (YMMV)
Definately advertise the trans while it is still installed in your bug... I'd figure a good driving trans worth $250 at least. Me, I'd want to drive it before kicking down cash. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

Yeah, what ^they^ said!
Unlike a bug, a tranny swap on a bus is no picnic. Specially just to find out how good or bad it is.
Gets old pretty quick and the expense is as much or more than just biting the bullet and paying for a good new/rebuilt one. _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

That reduction box bug should be cool. I'd like to see pictures of it if it's a bus one. |
