We restored that Ghia and the listing is still active,
as far as I can tell.
Something is fishy there though, with the location change from
Florida and the low price.
I've emailed the seller twice and so far no reply.
WTF?

EDIT: This auction is a SCAM!
I just spoke to the owner and the Ghia
is still in Pensacola, FL

This 1966 Ghia convertible was listed back when I had my 1958 convertible on EBAY (about 1 month ago). I think the bidding started at $10,000 and there were a few people who had bid on it. I don't remember there being a reserve on it, so it should have sold back then unless the buyer backed out of the deal.

Correct on that but the highest bid I saw was something like
$14,100.00 and the reserve was never met. Turns out the current
listing is a total scam because the Ghia is not in PA and this Ted
guy, who is listed as the seller, knows nothing about a car for sale.

Heh. Maybe global warming is happening faster than I thought, but I bet good ol' Shavertown, Pennsylvania doesn't have *too* many palm trees about.

Anyone contact abuse @ ebay?

Yes, the true owner of the Ghia has made contact
with eBay. The auction should be deleted soon.

This type of thing happens all of time on Ebay. I bid on a KG listed to be in East Boston this winter. It looked nice. Total Hoax. The tip is that they don't want you to use the "Ask the seller a question". They list a hotmail email address to contact them.

This scam auction has returned to eBay once again:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Volkswagen-Karmann-...7775QQrdZ1

They sure are getting a lot of mileage from those photos. Rolling Eyes
BEWARE, this auction is a hoax!

How do they expect to get anything out of this listing if the purchase is CASH ONLY, IN PERSON?

I am not aware of how that hoax works.

We contacted the original owner, for whom we
completed the restoration, and this Ghia is actually
still in the Pensacola, FL area.
Not for sale and the auction is bogus.
The scammer is asking for "cash sale only",
but I think the "in person" provision was added by eBay
when that payment method was selected. I think he/she
is relying upon some type of instant cash transfer to
scam the buyer, which is warned against right on
the same auction page.

Rolling Eyes Here we go again. You know sometimes I think people who bid on these obvious scams deserve all they get. The only trouble with that is the punk who puts up the scam wins Confused

Has anyone reported it yet? If not someone who knows the history of this car should do it...or we could bid it up Wink

Yes, maybe we should bid it up this time. Twisted Evil
Not sure if it's been reported to eBay at this point,
but I have informed the original owner.

I smell a rat on this one too:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1963-Volkswagen-Kar...dZViewItem

New user, low reserve, asks for contact before selling but leaves no contact info... and I don't think there are too many palm trees and tile roofs on Waukesha, Wisconsin.

In more than few cases (I'm told), the 'seller' will reverse course on the buyer in order to fake credibility---instead of demanding the entire amount site-unseen, they'll push for a deposit--'just to be sure you're serious about buying' ---anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple of thousand--depends how high the auction goes--which implies how big of a sucker you might be. OK, so how is it worth it for $500......use a multiplier! The scammers will work the line ---go down the list of bidders, contact each one by email and advise that the high bidder backed out, and if you want it, it's yours...as long as you get him a deposit by 5pm (or some such nonsense).

Of course, a dead giveaway in this case was a seller with a rating of 0.
(My) SOP---never even consider an item for sale from a seller with a rating of less than 10, has to have sold items before, and has been a member of EB for more than 3 mos.

BTW, I 'm really glad of the crackdown. When I was shopping motorcycles on that Craigs site, there were so many fraudulent posts that legit visitors
banded together and out-ed every crap post until they just stopped (and prob went to EB).

I look for Ghia stuff for fun on EB, I shop serious on Samba.
