I have a 1986 Vanagon manual transmission. I saw a leak in the high pressure hose connecting to the power steering pump. A new hose costs 240 dollars at Van Cafe, so I ordered a replacement kit, made by GoWesty for 99 dollars. Mechanic is charging me $250 for installation. Should I do this myself or have the mechanic do it? I am not a mechanic, how technical is this work? Thanks in advance.

Here is the link to the high pressure hose I am replacing with on GoWesty:

Wow, 250 is pretty steep.
I guess he is flushing the system with synthetic oil at 50 bucks a quart?

Grab some power steering fluid and do this yourself.

Make sure that the new hose has the fluid restrictor in it or else your next post will be along the lines of......
"I put in a new PS hose and now my PS is noisy"

use automatic transmission fluid (ATF), maybe something like Chevron MD-3, not power steering fluid

Damn it I meant to type auto trans fluid.
It was the big reason I was posting.
"Better make sure he does not buy power steering fluid" i thought.
Then what do I type?
Exactly the wrong advice. Sad
