I am not saying that I would use head gaskets. I am only wondering, if a person used head gaskets, would the extra space be considered deck height or combustion chamber?

If you are using the figure to determine comp ratio it really doesnt matter if you add it to deck or cc. However if your deck is lets say Zero and you add a .040 head gasket, your deck is still zero. That is, the piston is at the top of the cylinder and there is no possiblility of it traveling any further even if you had a .100 head gasket.

what are your numbers and desired compression ratio? maybe we can help you out. i run a 60 thousandths copper gasket, 56cc heads, and the deckheight was between 0-40 thousandths, i forgot. it ended up being 7.95:1 for turbo. i think it would be considered the equivalent of shimming up the cylinder, so i guess deckheight is what it's calculated as. i chose the gaskets for sealing properties and less oil leaking possibilities.
