I used to think a PO tried to paint my drivers side turn signal reflector blue for some reason. My passenger side one is normal (shiny, non painted).
However, today I was out scrounging for parts and came across this 78 with the same blue paint on the driver's side turn signal reflector. The passenger side one was without blue paint.
Can anyone explain? Anyone else have the same thing? Is it a '78 thing? A Canadian thing? A '78 Canadian Westy thing?

Lastly, you just referred to US citizens as 'Americans'. Exactly what kind of Canadian are you? From what continent? |

I think the metal alloy that the plastic is covered with turns blue as the metal oxidizes. When I was cleaning rattle can paint off my bus with oven cleaner I accidently got some overspray on those reflectors and it turned parts of them blue right away. The color blue in chemical reactions usually means there's copper present. _________________ 1977 Volkswagen Westfalia Deluxe |

That reasoning makes sense to me. I tried cleaning it off with some Varsol, and scoured a bit (thinking it was paint), but it mostly just made a mess and only came off a little. I'll just leave it alone, as it's plenty bright in any case. _________________ Darryl

The blue came off with steel wool. _________________ "I reject your reality and replace it with my own"
