|
|
About a year ago, I was driving around town when I came across this 1951 International Harvester refrigerator. Someone had put it out to the curb with a sign saying "IT WORKS". I tried to think justification for dragging this cool, but very large vintage item home. And then I thought "parts storage!" I went back, loaded it into the side of my Westy (it stuck out about a foot), and stuck it in the back of the garage. Now rather than digging through stacks of boxes digging for small parts, I can just open the fridge door and grab what I want. The top of it is a good place for my vintage coolers and more boxes. Over the last year it has gotten a bit disorganized, so I have to tidy up a bit. I only put a portion of my small NOS and used parts in there, I could use another one just like it. The fridge itself is in great shape, besides needing a complete paint job. The inside is really nice, and it still has all the original shelves. Someday I hope to actually use it as a fridge.
Look at that original paint and patina!
Freezer parts
Even the butter compartment if filled. _________________ '69 Beetle, '69 Beetle Convertible

My wife would totally kick your ass for that. She's really into old fridges. We have a 1941 Kelvinator and a 1949 Hotpoint, and they're totally more efficient and reliable than any modern appliance. They run maybe four times a day, and the beer is ice cold! Plus, they look way cool. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

The way you keep raving about that Kelvinator, *I* want one. Is that the natural-gas kind? Are there any forums for them? |

I think you need to paint it black with a flame job, yellow, orange, red flames with a purple pin stripe to set it off. I think its a bonus to keep the speedo's in the freezer. _________________ My last fortune cookie said:

Geez, I can't believe no one has said how *cool* that is!
My mom still has a 1940's fridge that my dad had as a child growing up, and it's still working great. That was back when they were meant to last, not die after a few years and be replaced... _________________ <---Air Cooled Search & Rescue Team - STICKERS & T-shirts for sale!

No, it's electric. I don't know about forums for them. Come to think of it, I wonder if there are forums about forums. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

How about listing all the NOS parts you have in that fridge in case there's anything I need. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

I have an IH fridge almost identical to that, however, I use it as a keg fridge.
And Tram is right, very efficient, and boy does it keep the beer cold!!! _________________ 20‰

My folks have a late 50's Hotpoint still running in the garage. White outside. Pink inside and the beer is still cold. _________________ Prosit!
