It's certainly not a good pic but your closer now than you were 5 minutes ago, right?

If I recall correctly, they have sharper/squarer corners than later Buses and the top is shaped somewhat like a peaked roof on a house. I've seen a few in my years but not up close in some time. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

Hi, many thanks, I have a load of pics just like this one from searching the interweb etc, as with this pic none of them clearly show a close up of the ashtray
Really I could do with a Dlx owner posting a close-up photo of their ashtray.........
why do I get the feeling that if finding a photo of one is this hard then actually tracking down an original one will be mission impossible? _________________ www.musclebus.co.uk

Mr Vega
youre in luck
this is a rear ashtray I have
stampings on the rear are:
1. The part number: 211 857 401A
2. VW logo
3. ‘Hagus’ logo
i presume both rear ashtrays are the same?
anyone know what year these go up until? _________________ -StockRocks- |

As far as I know they are the same but I don't think a Barndoor would have a 211 part numbered part. |
cheers Everett, do you or anyone else know what part number a Barndoor ashtray would be?

I'm almost positive that both of their Buses has the same ashtrays as later Buses, although I wouldn't be at all surprised if the part number is different or some other minute detail like that. The RHD '54 Deluxe pictured earlier in this thread with the ashtrays circled is John's Bus and it has the regular/later looking ashtrays in it as you can see in the pic. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

The 52 Deluxe ash tray as found in the deluxe at Charlie H. is for very early deluxe's the top is the same as the front ash tray or very close. My 52 june built deluxe has the later type that looks just like late post barndoor ash tays but there is no part numbers stamped on the back.
I wonder when they started with the part numbers? |
