I've know earlier bus Type IV heads have 8/8 studs there. I can't remember when the change occurred though - but I think it was before the hydraulic lifter era started that they went to 9/8's. So I guess the question becomes, what engine/heads do you have on there?

It might be 1700cc heads for 8mm studs.

Just got the stripped out stud out that got this started, the outside stud on cyl#2.Oh yea it's 9mm head side 8mm for the copper nut end.Guess i will just reinstall the 8 x 8mm back in cyl #1 put it all back together with new copper gaskets (annealed) and copper nuts and be on my way.

You're lucky I have a frankenstined rebuild that has one head that uses the 8mm on both ends and one head that uses the 9mm/8mm. Took me a bit by suprise to say the least.
