Hello everybody! This weekend I started redoing the upholstery in my van (thank you Sewfine!) but I am experiencing an issue with the cushions on the rear bench not sitting flush together. I am hoping this is just an issue with the seat brackets being misaligned but I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if you have any guidance. I would appreciate it!
Thanks!

not being fastened down I'd wager the hinges aren't fully 'seated' or relaxed
one being slightly sprung compared to the other.
should align once bolted into the van. _________________

Thanks for the replies! I will get the bench fully installed in the van and see if that corrects the issue. Will follow up with more pics. |

So, just curious - do you have any pictures of it before you started the job? By that, I'm trying to determine what the seat looked like before.
And again to help understand - are you replacing just fabric, or did you get new foam or make other changes?
I ask because that looks like a pretty significant gap and it's also pretty significantly misaligned. Without either you saying "It was a tight gap and perfectly aligned left to right before", then something seems off.
If your history turns out to be "I bought the empty frame and I've made my own backrest wood" then I'd have other thoughts and so might others. So a little background or history might be nice. Also, it kind of looks like you're completely done with this seat? _________________ 1987 2WD Wolfsburg Vanagon Weekender "Mango", two fully locked 80 Series LandCruisers. 2017 Subaru Outback boxer. 1990 Audi 90 Quattro 20V with rear locking differential, 1990 burgundy parts Vanagon. 1984 Porsche 944, 1988 Toyota Supra 5 speed targa, 2002 BMW 325iX, 1982 Toyota Sunrader |

Hey Dave, that goes well with the OEM panels. What's that fabric called? _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

Hi, we're looking at seat covers to replace the shredded corduroy. Can you tell me what the colour is called?
Thanks. _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

Yes both the cushions and the fabric have been replaced. Prior to replacing performing this work there was no gap. The whole bench seat assembly was removed from the van and was assembled outside of the van. I think the fabric is misaligned but the cushions were centered when I glued them in place.

I experienced this gap with the Wolfy Camper jumpseat same vintage.
The new foam from SewFine wasn't the exact right dimensions.
It is pretty annoying when things like cell phones can easily drop into the crack.
The seat looks great otherwise.

That is disappointing to hear. Did Sewfine say anything about the foam being to incorrect specifications? When I picked up the foam I compared it to the original foam and it was a couple inches too short which they were able to correct but otherwise the foam was the same size. |

I see it's not perfect, but really darn nice. I notice the picture of the seat prior that the bolsters on the passenger side also don't seem to align back to bottom. _________________ ☮️ |

I used Earth Tweed and Van Tan Vinyl.

It's a Rainy Day, I've got my Sewfine upholstery Samples and am sitting in the Van having a big think and contemplating the options not only of color but fabric price breaks. The nicer stuff IS NICER but drives the prices up. I'm weighing that against a projected use of maybe three (3) weeks per year?

Hmmmmm. It looks more like the 'Natural' to me. 'Earth' is pretty dark. _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

Quick update! Got the bench and the jump seat installed in the van. There is still a gap in-between the bench cushions and there is also a gap in-between the jump seat cushions. This is disappointing but the new upholstery looks damn good otherwise.
