Okay, long story short 😉

The complete bus has a new owner, and both the buyer and seller are happy with the deal. It is being saved. Cool

P.s. Wanted-
Set of deluxe glass
1 or 2 Gerson panels
A few thousand hours of welding 😂

It seems there are some very large holes in this story.

The largest being his attempt to sell this as complete shell and frame just a few days ago, yet in this story he cut the bus apart the first time he Layed eyes on it.

Either way, it sounds as though this story isn't headed for a happy ending

It's probably idiots like him, that ruin our hobby and enthusiasm so much. Wherever this thing is (was) , and whatever deepfreezing Canadian backwoods it was located in. If he didn't come up with the right tools, I am sure that somebody would have been willing and able to come up with something like a helicopter, snowmobile, HD 4x4 truck or whatever it would have taken. Maybe he could have rightly sold his information for a fair sum of 1000 or mabye even a few thousands. Should have passed it on to somebody willing and able IMHO. greed is so ugly.

Now- Selling off a 'good condition' speedo in a clock pod.... Rolling Eyes Laughing

so isn't that pretty quick. 1100 miles in 9 hours ?
Must have used up all the money he got for the bus, for paying speeding tickets all over the US and Canada Rolling Eyes Laughing

Anyone else see this posted in the gallery? He posted this photo and said that he cut it up?

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_search.php?search_author=m.dumas

Here a little story about a find, thats not many person on this earth have made.

According to my research on the internet, this particular model has never been found abandonned in a place that nobody ever been.

Only few were found, but not many was really forgotten about.

In this winter 2017, long distance friend send me a picture. In this photo we could see an old wrecked van.

I let things pass....

A few days later, I looked at the picture again, and realized that it was an old Volkswagen split window.

So I decided to do some research and I quickly noticed that was a Barndoor 23 windows Deluxe .

It was time to locate this Barndoor. Over only 10 call later, I managed to find the woodcutter and find out where to find it. 1700kms away from me and 70kms lost in a forest, he was supposed to be there.

I was ready to leave and go to find this old VW.

Get a truck, get tool, get everything and we were ready. 9 hours later we were there, ready to enter this forest. only 70 km were separated the bus and I .

After driving 1.30h in the forest, snow, and hill, we found it. it was there sitting in the middle of nowhere. I found it, one of the rarest possible vw to find in a complete abandoned arena

It was beautiful. Sitting here watching the mountain....

I did not bring the trailer , it was impossible, it started ice raining. We have no choices. I Cut the bus and putted in the truck.

I took as many pieces as I could and we left before getting stuck in the forest.

we made it in time ...

In his small town, everyone will always talk about this 2 youngs men who have traveled over 3000kms to find a old wrecked car ...

I'm thinking those pictures^ may have been taken after this 53 barndoor deluxe had been picked up by the roof by the logging crane.

- roof squeezed by the crane's jaws, so some skylights vertical and sunroof bows kinked
- cab area drop when lifted due to cab floor area/chassis weakness & front axle weight
- rear section/roof pulled downtoo due to rear axle (engine?) weight & cargo floor/chassis weakness
- virtually all glass popped out from the resulting distortion, only surviving in the cab doortop (no distortion)

Imagine in those seconds a £75k bus turning into a £30k bus!
Beaten up, but still here. Original paint poking out too.

I called U.S. Customs @ Highgate Springs Vt., they said no title needed to bring in a shell, the duty $$ would be pretty minimal for a shell like that...

Maybe. But actually I would not blame the seller but the bidders who offered such stupid prices on this thing.

I wouldn't be proud to open a build thread claiming I am the new owner Idea
Even though I have some doubts that it will actually sell for what the seller tell.

Anyway, now I think the auction is over so let's wait a few weeks or months and see what happen to this bus and how good/bad it is Wink

It maybe a lot to to some, stupid to others, but anyone who steps up and saves a Barndoor should ALWAYS feel proud. No matter how much they have chosen to spend to do it.
I personally very much hope to see a build thread and wish any buyer good luck.
Big spenders don’t piss me off as much as horders who hide stuff away that others could use to save a bus.

Yeah but this whole deal is lame. I would be very suspicious. I wouldn't let go of a dime unless I was prepared to meed this guy, on that day I give $ to him we go to the bus and I'm able to purchase said bus. Cuz if you're going to spend stupid might as well plan smart. Laughing

I could find much better things to do with my time and the money involved than to put some crumpled rust pile back on the road. To those that do - you are fun to watch, I will give you that. Wink

That's a good comment, Patrick! Sounds qualified...
Would be interesting to see a picture before the poor bus was "raped" and put on the pile of woods.

Other question: I don't want to speak in a bad way about the seller, but am I the only one who is a bit sceptical, that this bus does belong to the seller? I'm not in contact with him, so maybe I'm wrong.

I have the same email as the previous post from today asking £24k, guess he's just waiting to see who sends some money first??
It would be lots easier if people would just put a bloody price on things and save the confusion Rolling Eyes
