|
|
I am about to help a friend install a set of Italian Weber 40s on a stock 1600 DP, with 009. I am asking for a good place to start as far as jets, venturies, and anything else you may want to add. I think that this setup is overkill for this engine, but it is his choice. Can we make this work? I am not sure what jets/ venturies are installed at this point.
Thank you,
Tom |

Proper fuel pressure being what?
I know that currently there is a mechanical fuel pump installed, but can be swapped out for an electric one. Kads take 2 1/2 psi, what is required for Webers? Guess we will have to get a regulator too.
Stan, that link is awesome!!! Thank you. Between yours and RIS reccomendations.... we will have a good head start.
I know that this is somewhat related... Stan, what mileage do you get, and overall, anyone else (RIS, etc) what mileage are you getting.
RIS, I agree that these carbs are not overkill if tuned correctly, hence venturie/ jet changes before the carbs are installed. When working in 112 deg heat, we want to be ahead of the game, before we melt. |

Webers need 3psi or less. You don't need an electric pump, the stock mechanical pump will more than suffice. |

Have to be careful with Italian carbs. If you have a dead or weak spot around 1/4 throttle (2500 RPM range-ish), that you cannot get rid of even if your floats are right, and your jets are right, there's a chance that the idle air bushings are oversized. It happens more on the 36 IDFs, but it can be the case here too. Check this:

Mileage.. hard to say, I never measured it. This is my play car, and not daily driven. It seems the mileage with the Webers was close to, if not better then what I was getting with the single 34PICT. It's hard not to step on the gas though.. Currently, the engine is out for maintenance
Oh yeah, my fuel pressure is at 3.5psi, measured.

Yeah, mine started out as maintenance too Stan. Be careful. A few slips with the wrench and your case will be apart! lol |

I already replaced the transaxle mounts, which was the original reason for taking the engine out.
I want the case to be apart! All of the top-end stuff is off and has been cleaned thoroughly already. Now I'm stuck because I can't get the gland nut off.. Plans are to replace all bearings, put in a Web 118 and new lifters, lighten the flywheel to 12 pounds, 8-dowel my stock crank and flywheel. I'd appreciate any suggestions or comments.
