JacobNOLA -
When I bought my east coast van (NC and MD) the first thing that needed to get replaced was the hard brake line, it had rusted through. I dont know if this is an expensive job....it was for me for the shop I used made a new hard brake line (which in hindsight does not seem like the best way, think this forum has concluded that flex hose works) but I was in a pinch so they did that repair and it was ....very expensive.
I think, as Elizer mentioned, Rust will be your next biggest thing to check out. I can't offer any advice on rust and at what level to walk away....
I know nothing about Tiico engines but see there are multiple threads here and literature available so thats a plus: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=647175&postorder=desc
Otherwise I think it is usual stuff that you discover with a test drive: brakes suspension .
I'd want to test the camping equip: pop the top, light the stove, run the water ....but these are far from show stoppers.
Good luck, looks like a decent to great find (depending on rust) _________________ '89 2WD Westy "Grey Goose" - Manual 4spd

Well, I live close and have messaged the seller several times and he hasn't replied so no wonder it hasn't sold. _________________ 1963 Single Cab

Replacing hard line with hard line is always the best option. And yes, doing so on the van is going to be expensive because VW, in their infinite wisdom must have installed the lines before anything else on the chassis. Access to the lines and to the Ts is just absolutely terrible. But now that it's done, it's not something you need to worry about for 30 more years. _________________ '87 Syncro

Annual inspection coming up this week so I did my pre-inspection inspection and found some turn signal problems. Bought new bulbs and discovered that one of the front sockets had a wire that had pulled loose, and both sockets were corroded but I was able to save them. Everything's better now and the van's ready for a bath during the nice weather before Wednesday's appointment at the dealer. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

1987 VW Vanagon. I'm advertising this for a friend in need. The fuel injection seems to be having an issue. Unsure what's wrong. The van has made trips to mt Hood but now needs work to drive any long distance. New plates tags title. |

ok...so...long time listener, first time caller here. I've owned a 77 westy vanagon for a few years, but as it turns out I'm the wrong owner for it (just not a mechanical guy, young kids, etc.). Anyway...I'm looking to sell it.
I've been watching ebay to get a sense for pricing, but it's way all over the map (similar buses ranging from $12-32K over the last couple years). How would you recommend coming up with a valuation? I suppose I could just put it up on ebay and see what happens, but was hoping to get a sense for it prior to doing so.
Any and all advice greatly appreciated. |

Wrong Forum. You want to go to the bay window side. Vanagon came out in 1980.
