This ad was originally placed in August but renewed today. I'm not sure what the premium for an Oettinger badged van would be (other than "whatever someone would pay for it") but the price seems reasonable.

1988 Oettinger Multivan Price: 24900

Quote:
German vehicle imported to US. Clear NH title (also still have German title). I bought this while in the service in Germany and toured all over Europe with it.
The equivalent of a US Westfalia Weekender. The only change made to it upon import was a swap to a US speedometer

Freshly rebuilt (by T3 specialist in Germany) AAR 5 speed manual with factory LSD (3400rpm @70mph) This is the best cruising factory transmission ever available
Anti-lock brakes
Truck mirrors
European factory hitch (works with US 2" hitch, trailer wiring converted to US 4 wire flat)
Front air dam
Factory 2nd battery hook up under rear seat
Swivel passenger seat
Sliding far rear drivers side window
Rear "jail bars"
Blaupunkt stereo

Modified by Oettinger in Germany in the late 80's with:
Hella/Momo steering wheel
Oettinger badging
15" wheels (originally silver, I had them powder coated black)
Audi front brakes with braided lines
Oettinger gauges
Oettinger FI chip
Engine built with Oettinger performance camshaft and high compression DJ pistons (recently rebuilt approx 1500 miles ago - new clutch, new AMC heads, new water pump, new high volume keyed oil pump)

Tons of receipts and documents
Recent tires, brakes, starter, battery, radiator, all hoses, windshield

Front and rear have paint chip and a couple of small rust bubbles

Only selling because shoulder and elbow surgery are reducing my ability to drive a manual

Will CONSIDER trades towards automatic transmission vanagon or porsche

It's an Oettinger, but no pic of the engine compartment. Weird. If this was an Syncro Tristar Oettinger, Would there be enough space under the windshield for all the decals?

The ad doesn't say it is a wbx6, only that it has Oettinger cams and high compression pistons. That is a lot less interesting.

not sure if this is a good deal on the rebuilder transaxle or not but someone may be interested in it.. all the way in the great state of Maine.
maybe they should have watched this video on assembly
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xjaUKz488o&ab_channel=ElectricVehicleWorldTour

https://maine.craigslist.org/pts/d/cape-neddick-vw-vanagon-bus-transaxles/7221252889.html

VW Vanagon Bus Transaxles Syncro - $2,000

Various vw transaxles for rebuild or parts including a whole Syncro one as well as parts for another Syncro box.

Syncro box was rebuilt but third was installed backwards so it pops out of gear

Would like to sell them all for $2000 OBO

Does anyone have an opinion on this van? It’s been re-listed a few times now for not hitting reserve. Seems like the 1990 year vans typically sell for a premium so why not this one? Any input is appreciated.

Looks like rust issues around the connection boxes. Very few photo's of that side and no close up photos of area. Does mention rust in description,

Very surprised when doing a car-part.com search to find this example in Marshallville, OH being listed for parts. Stock# LLVW219. Someone nearby may want to search this out.

not sure it's a good deal, cause it certainly isn't a nice van anymore
but it does have alot of good parts if you are upgrading your 2wd tintop to a Syncro westy

https://huntington.craigslist.org/cto/d/ashland-1987-vw-volkswagen-vanagon/7233419303.html

1987 VW Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro Westfalia - $6,000 (Ashland)

Quote:
This is an original Syncro with rear diff lock that someone started a Westfalia conversion on. I’ve had it 15 years but haven’t started it in a year. It’s been garage kept and not been driven in winter by me. Even so there is rust. Mileage is over 120k, odometer stopped working. Has pop top and kitchen/closet/cabinets installed. Fridge is out at moment from inspected that body panel. I never used fridge. Propane tank is off vehicle. It is heavily rusted. Poptop canopy is not installed and I think I have it. I definitely have the trim/edge strips. It has curtains that are not installed. Has rear ac but it’s not hooked up. Picture order starts at fridge wall and goes counter clockwise. Bad rust areas are behind fridge at lower wall seam, drivers fender well and footwell, and passengers footwell. The channel tubing between drivers side jack points where it ties into side body panel is 40% gone. Drivers front jack point is also weak from rust. Poptop has two pieces of sheet metal on top to patch something(see pic), needs fiberglassed. Lots of mechanical and functional repairs have been completed by me. Heavy rated tires on Audi wheels, headlight relay upgrade, power steering hoses upgraded to braided. New exhaust and possibly headers(I forget), shocks, front bumper tube. I have extensive records and list of repairs that I’ve forgotten. Ran well when parked. Has some issues but was always drivable. Currently fuel pump is not running. I’m looking into that now. Discovered rear spring mount perch on both a-arms needs replaced. Email for more info, leave your number for a callback. Thanks

i'll just include this one pic..

Well, if you spend a year and you do all the work yourself you could probably have a fully equipped well running Syncro Westy for $12k + thousands of hours.

Yeah that van doesn't even look safe to drive. I'm sure it has potential for the right person, but it's a long ways off.

It was bid up to $18K and didn't meet reserve? It's not selling because the reserve is too high.

At first I thought "No shit". But I'm willing to bet he's had people call and ask if they would be able to drive it across the country on a van life pilgrimage.

Probably not an outrageous price. But it's just so hard to get that smoke smell out of things no matter how hard you try, even if you're just stripping it down for parts.
