The one Syncro I'd like to know about is the blue panel van Syncro that's been for sale at $22k for exactly 3 years. I re-read the description and its been t-boned "recently" and a fix is in the works. Looks like he dropped the price to $10k/trade. If you're going to do that, You might want to take down the $22k price in the header.

Thanks. I figured there had to be some shady history given then time it's been on the market.[/quote]

Years ago I spoke to the guy who brought the Blue Panel Syncro into the country. It was for sale at 8K. Seems there was a glitch in the Paper work. Late Panels weren't classified as passenger vehicles in Germany. If imported improperly they became issues to title? Be careful with the Blue Panel.

There was an air-cooled Vanagon that I was watching on eBay. My intent was to put a racing Type IV in it (in line with this thread), but the engine I knew of locally sold, so I decided to pass.

In the process I started talking to Rachel (the Seller), and she sounds super honest. NO CONNECTION.

Anyway, she just contacted me to let me know that BOTH of her Buyers (she sold it twice on eBay) have backed out, and that the van is still for sale. It is located in Berkeley, CA. If someone wants a nice air-cooled tiptop, she'd take $2,500 for it. Here is the past listing - you have to go through eBay messaging to contact her. She responds pretty quickly. PM me for her email, in case you can't get through eBay.

This looks interesting. May be a good deal if all is as claimed and the top was well done.

1985 "Westfauxlia" in Portland OR for $9700...

Can someone please shed some insight on this guy?

Looks like a weekender bench (no cabinets) but has the kitchenette. Seller says it's a full camper. I wasn't aware of this setup...

Looks like a franken-camper... No air conditioning yet the dash has the ac knobs. Missing rear cabinet/closet/water tank.
88+ fiber glass bumpers were not available on the 87 model. Paint is pretty rough and probably hiding poor body work or rust.
Get the VIN and run a report. I may have been rebuilt from a wrecked full camper and things were removed.
They probably put in the weekender bench after removing the rear cabinets and overhead ac.

Looks like a POS to me looking at the expanded pics. It appears that it was originally a full camper (all the hookups, interior bits and camper panels are there) but it looks like they removed the rear cabinet and put in a bigger rear bed. If it was done well, it wouldn't be terrible, but it doesn't look like it was done well and it isn't an improvment for sure. The paint looks horrible, the bedliner treatment looks like it is hiding more ugliness. It is priced only a little bit below other 87 Westies, but it is a far cry from other vans I see for sale. A newer engine and tranny are nice, but you can't tell if they were done right either. Not worth the risk and not a nice van.

How about this one the inside is rough and out it's in CO. Not a for sale sign so told them I would give $1,000 they said they would think on it. Is it a 1973?

Looking at this one...I am open to any input...I'm a total novice when it comes to Vanagons. I've been saving for one for two years now.

Anything I should be weary of here? Questions to ask? I think price is high.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1993593

one listed for 13K in Reno w/ a subaru engine as well:

Hummm.. an aircooled with a lot of work done to it, or one with a Subie install for a grand less? I'd take the Subie.

This could be a good van with a little love an at the price not a bad deal. can see on the odometer you can see the body only has 75k miles, can assume it needs the usual up keep.

I say "danger, danger" on that so called 82 aircooled. Photos seem taken for deception and various details in them don't add up. Something looks wrong there.

If only I had room for them…I'd be sorely tempted, even with the transportation bill. How many transporters would it take to haul these? Would they all fit on one?
