I really like this. The reality is, that you can't build this van for this kind of money, so anyone who buys it will come out ahead. |

I saw this listing as well, just to provide the details so folks dont have to click to the site if not interested:
1990 Volkswagen vanagon syncro - $6000 (Lake tapps)
ad:
1990 Volkswagen vanagon syncro project!
I started this project roughly 4 years ago, anyone who is looking to get into the van life and start a build this is a great foundation for it.
Ej25 swap out of a 2007 Subaru Impreza (drive by wire) the motor was out of a junk yard car that had been totaled in the rear, the documents from the junk yard states the motor had 67,000 miles when pulled out of the car, also videos of the engine running before it was pulled out of the car.
Stainless steel coolant lines
Stainless steel headers all from north Westy
North Westy intake set up and a northwesty Wiring harness
Rear locker transmission (actuator installed, just need vacuum lines ran to make it functional) other than that the trans shifts like butter no grinding whatsoever
2 new rear axles (German)
New rear drums and brake shoes
Old man emu rear struts
Interior is 99% there minus the plastic locker cover panel I would say 8/10 on cleanliness.
Mercedes c class wheels with bf Goodrich KM2 tires
Drive line and front differential in good shape and have no slop.
CONS: there is a rod bearing knock in the motor, I put around 11,000 miles on it after the swap before this came about, there was NO catastrophic failure in this doing, so the engine is very easily rebuildable.
Wiring harness will need to be taped up a little better
Vacuum system for rear locker will need to be ran, I do have the vacuum plenum for under the van when you decide to hook up the vacuum lines.
Front axles will need to be installed, there is stub axles in the hubs right now to protect the wheel bearings, I did drive the van for all 11,000 miles with stub axles in the front hubs and no 4x4
No power steering hooked up because metal lines were rusted and leaked, so I looped the system to still drive it.
Syncro fuel cap and backing plate is not installed, it has a 2wd one on currently but I do have the parts to install
Body work has been started on the driver side of the van and the front bumper support to fix seem rust, but never got finished, it is sealed over with primer.
There is typical rust, some small bubbles under the rear window, and also some seem rust, NO giant holes or horrible rot.
Syncro fuel tank straps are rusted and broken off, I did have a set of replacements floating around somewhere I'll locate.
I'm sure I am missing a lot, so as we talk over phone or email I can fill you in on any more questions you may have. Overall this van is a great foundation for creating your dream camping rig, I camped in it quite a bit while it was running, even took it down to northwest mog fest and played around with it, it can be a blast but as of right now I have way to many other vehicle projects going on and this one is falling towards the back of the pack, I would love to have some one save it and give it the life I wanted to! I do have tons of parts that will come with the van!
Clean title

Now that pictures are up, yeah...this looks awesome. I actually debated (debating) if I should try and jump out my current van for this one... dont think i can convince the wife to have 2 vans...

To be fair, the van DOES have Nevada plates...maybe they have connections to both locales? |

Can't say if it's a good deal or not because I've emailed them twice and gotten no reply. Maybe they don't like my questions.... Looks good from the pics though.

That seems like a great deal. The ad has been out there for a while now. In the one picture without the bra, you can see some damage to the front; maybe that's why it's still out there. _________________ Joe T.

For Sale:
VW VOLKSWAGEN 1988 VANAGON WESTFALIA
Great for camping, reliable for long trips. Starts up first time and runs smoothly.
Over $14,000 spent on repairs in the past 3 years.
$6900 spent less than a year ago. All work done an Werner's Auto Klinik, and all records are on hand. Too many things to list, but the most important was an engine rebuild, where 2 brand new cylinder heads were installed.
She needs a bit of touching up, has spots of rust on the body, but the frame is rust-free. Wouldn't take much to make it mint condition again.
$7800 OBO.

That is true. And the kitchen seam is one of the most common rust spots.
But, even with some rust, this may be a mechanically-sound van, at a good price, for someone to go have some adventures. Not everyone needs a beauty queen. _________________ Eric

Ohhh I FULLY agree..
I just hate it when sellers purposely wire the horses mouth shut.
sweep it under the rug, no that's not a blood stain.. the house is just on the market as the family had a sudden emergency. _________________

Maybe it's all the rust behind the kitchen?? The rust looks significant from the photos, I could be wrong though. |

Maybe ... However, I think it just looks like a seam that hasn't been addressed yet. Not anything out of control. And when you consider that this is less than half of this guy ...
