Holy cow, this guy didn't give a rip what he sideswiped or backed into.

In that condition, you could play hard without much guilt. If I offroaded for fun, that'd be the rig I'd buy. I bet that was a cool dad.

This...is tough to swallow for me right now. I drove all the way to oregon to pick up a similar van for over a grand more not long ago *wince* Mine has a freshly rebuilt trans, but if this one is in better condition inside and out...I'm screaming inside. |

It did look like a good deal. Anybody on here get it? I have a Westfalia top I was considering installing on it. |

I'm curious too. I tried to get over there to look at it, but he made it difficult to coordinate so I never found out what condition it was in or what kind of interest he was getting. |

1987 RHD PANEL DIESEL $4800 Fayetteville, Arkansas c/l
https://fayar.craigslist.org/cto/d/1987-vw-volkswagen-vanagon/6646904613.html
Here's something a little different. 1987 RH Drive Panel. Diesel. He claims early TDI I think not. It MIGHT be a 1.7 NA and that is quite a bit better motor than a 1.6 NA. About 8 more hp but better designed block and head. Rare in US.
FWIW, More or less driving RHD in US is no big deal. The blind left side might put you in problems sometimes. If it was mine, I'd put a window in the slider. Or find a left slider with window. Easy? _________________ Al Brase

i test drove the 89 tin top in Philly. i'm on the fence... A/C and power steering not working, rattle can primer covering all seams, tranny has a drip from the bottom and the area around the axle seals is wet with an oily fluid (maybe ATF?). rear hatch lock not working and can only be opened from the inside.
the good: it's local, it runs, and it will scratch the itch to get a Vanagon.
i have reached out numerous times to the seller of the Frederick Vanagon asking for details and photos of the interior and the engine, lack luster response.
the Allentown van... not sure what to make of that. the dent at the fuel filler... could have damaged the fuel filler assembly and the breather system... and then there is the odo issue - no way that has 57k miles.
i really want a Vanagon, but not enough to gamble... is this gambling?

Ummm...putting any money into a Vanagon qualifies as gambling...

I say these are deals for the more veteran guys who do most if not all the repairs on their own (not me). I would get one that is a little more sorted out. Also, I definitely am hesitant to work with a person who doesn't respond well to communication. |

I'd rather gamble on a Vanagon than a pony. Due diligence to understand these and what to expect vs. blindly buying one because it's 3k and me want!

and that's the rub... finding one a little more sorted out is not exactly a slam dunk. while i'm very much a novice with regard to Vanagons, there is very little i'm not willing to tackle, except the tranny, that would go across the river to NJ... |

This is the problem I'm currently having. I realize being slow to let go of a dear Vanagon, but I almost would rather pay more to someone that will communicate. |

my favorite is the photo of the family having fun with the van but no pictures that show the things people want to see... like the odo, the seams, the engine, the interior. and of course they are asking an unrealistic price.
i love to see the ads where there are tons of photos and they are asking 2k. that seller knows how to sell a Vanagon. |

I can't tell you how many of those adventure photo albums I see on listings. Or the ones that have photos that really confuse me. Van in a campsite halfway behind a bush. Photo of the inverter with no context of where it's installed. 4 photos of the same exterior angle. No photos of tire / wheels. Why? |

I would be very wary of that '91 Westy.
https://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/d/1991-tdi-diesel-westy/6669043287.html
Looks like some pretty sketchy DIY work. Could be a big can of worms.
On the selling/listing of vans for sale.
I never understand some people.
If you want to sell your vehicle strip out all your personal stuff, clean it, pump up the tires, don't post photos of your camping trips with your buddies (nobody cares), take the time to compose decent pictures that are in focus, and be honest. Hiding the bad stuff will just turn off anyone who takes the time to come look at the van.
If they see the bad stuff and still come to look at it most likely they are real buyers. _________________ Currently:
