On the selling/listing of vans for sale.
I never understand some people.
If you want to sell your vehicle strip out all your personal stuff, clean it, pump up the tires, don't post photos of your camping trips with your buddies (nobody cares), take the time to compose decent pictures that are in focus, and be honest. Hiding the bad stuff will just turn off anyone who takes the time to come look at the van.
If they see the bad stuff and still come to look at it most likely they are real buyers.

I pretty much agree with your listing advice. Amazin how some put up just horrible pics and think it will sell itself.
Right, SHOW the bad stuff, even note it. If it's a deal breaker, might as well not waste anybody's time.
WRT the listed 91 Vanagon: Sorry, it looks pretty good to me. Low tech for sure, no intercooler, small turbo(?). No power steering.

Haha, sounds like you’re describing this add specifically. Not a single decent picture in the add. Who cares how you arrange the dishes.

Just posting this one cause it looks sort of interesting:

Seems a reasonable price to me but I'm no Vanagon expert by any stretch

Six pictures with the dishes. Not a single good picture of the paint and seam rust. apparently the fuzzy rear pic shows rusty paint edges (PATINA, wow) No side shots, no front seat pics.
Any 1.9 Westy is second best. Sorry. or lower. The extra 10hp (?) of a 2.1 is really nice. And there are other advantages to newer cars: better cooling system, by 1989 a more reliable transmission. Many others. It would have to be the best 1984 in the world. This one is clearly not worth the asking price.

I mentioned this on previous page. It is a RHD DIESEL PANEL . Not for every one.
Seller claims 2000 TDI. NO.It's not a TDI. Not even a "T". But an NA. with a 4 speed. But it MIGHT be a 1.7 NA, which is a much better engine than a 1.6NA.
Still nearly the slowest car sold in the USA in decades. Though this one was not sold in the USA.

this van was posted without photos, so I asked for photos. looks solid... but how hard is it to drive to an empty parking lot and get some decent photos without a fence and tree in the way?

says it's state inspected, but the sticker expired in March! and since when is an automatic rare, that's damn near all i see on Craigslist!!!

any red flags?

Check under the gray plastic 360 degree bumper as best you can for rust.

First post on this thread (but what a great thread). This seems like a really good deal to me for an '88 West Coast Westy with such low miles. They mention a little rust on the body... hopefully just from dings etc. I don't see any seam rust when I zoom in but not a ton of photos. Plus recent work.
