I don’t believe this is a Genuine Ad due to the background looking like the West Coast and not Chicago.
And then there’s the low price ….but , here is the Craigslist Ad

That same van has been posted all across the country, a few people mentioned it on the previous page. Very obviously a scam. _________________ 1982 Westfalia AEB 1.8t

Saw the other posts about it, as you mentioned once I went back a page on this thread. Yeah, total scam .
Cute that it gets loaded across the country in various listings. _________________ '68 Westy- my first VW and vehicle/Bus- long gone.- sold it to a traveling Swiss couple....

^^^Since that's for a Eurovan Doka the Eurovan forum a few doors down the hall might be a better place for that heads-up msg. Nice of you to think of the Doka owners looking for a cool accessory. _________________ - Jim

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/cto/d/santa-cruz-vanagon-westfalia/7487831199.html
1990 2.1L Vanagon Westfalia - $14,500 (santa cruz)
Odometer reading 317865 kilometers (Canadian model)
A/C
Upholstery and curtains and entire kitchen are all original and in excellent condition (apart the refrigerator has been removed).
Sink, stove and propane tank function well.
Canopy is original and has some damage, see photo.
Upper bed is original and in great shape.
Flooring is new 3/8" birch ply, unfinished. Carpet cut to size is also available
Brand New clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder
Brand New water pump & thermostats
Brand New valve cover gaskets and plugs
This van has been serviced at Folks Cafe in Santa Cruz for the period of my ownership, with the exception of the clutch work which was done here in Santa Cruz by Ainsworth Auto.
This is a Canadian model. This means two things:
1. The odometer is in km/hr.
2. The gas hookup is not inline with the other two hookups- instead it is on the bottom of the same panel.
Parts on hand:
Ignition switch
Oxygen Sensor
Ultratect Cover, unopened in box
Known Issues:
Some rust, but many rust related issues have been resolved during our ownership
Power steering lines need to be replaced
Smogged but currently on Non-Op
Back wiper needs replacing, motor is functional
Door slider doesn't function awesome
Rear wheel bearings _________________ 1991 tin top GL

Went to Ovals Motorsports in Milton, WA to find out about replacing a busted coolant hose. Come to find out as of 5/31 they are closing shop! Been going there off and on for over a decade. Sad to see another Vanagon shop close their doors. Anyway, they were selling off a pretty decent later Syncro. I had less than a minute to give it a once over and take a few quick pictures. Looks rather good, no obvious rust, clean interior and very presentable. Didn't check mileage or if it had lockers. The shop said that the motor was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago. They were looking to get an offer near $14k

Yes I agree.
What surprises me is how much the Vanagon/Westy is in general. The high mileage (anything over 150K) is still starting at 20K and even reaching 50K. I know nothing about the Vanagon. Can anyone explain how many miles the Vanagon engine can reach before most step away?
I try to do most of the work on my 67 Westy, it's easy and simple but there will be a day that I upgrade to roll up windows and heat for winter. My daily driver is an 85 mini truck so I'm starting to think the Vanagon is the way to go in transition.

I drove my '85 Nissan pickup more than 300K miles (on the original clutch!) before giving it to my bro-in-law for his kid. Always trusted that truck, waay more than I do the Vanagon I've owned for 16 years. This van is now brushing 100K miles but it gets only occasional use. They say the 2.1L WBX needs rod bolts by 150K or risks damage. As with most vehicles beyond a certain age, condition outranks mileage; a nicely maintained high-mile model is preferable to a lower-mile beater. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |
