I paid for a set of Mud Flaps from Lee on June 13th with PayPal. I had still not received them on July 6th so I sent him another e-mail. He responded with this:
Quote:
I just moved from Carlsbad to San Diego as well as changed jobs and my old
laptop went back to the old company, along with most of my archived
emails. I apologise for the delay in getting you the parts. Can you
please give me your mailing address & full name again so I can send the
mud flaps via Priority Mail?

Thanks!

LEE

I sent my address back the same day and received an e-mail stating:
Quote:
Thanks for the address.
I'll get them boxed & sent to you this weekend.

LEE

Here it is August 17th and I still have not heard from him. I've e-mail several times and have never heard anything from him. I know Lee is well respected in the T3 and T34 community, but I would based on my experience with him, I would never recommend anyone doing business with him.

File a complaint with Paypal. They will straighten something out.

You will get all your money back.

Notchback, I can assure you that Lee Hedges is anything BUT a slacker, or a loser that would take your money and not deliver parts. I know Lee personally, and have for many years, and please believe me, he is so much a part of the solution, rather than part of the problem.
Lee's had some bad luck befall him of late, and I'll just about guarandamntee you, you'll get your mudflaps.
Lee is one of the most honest, upstanding, honest men in this hobby.

In fact, if you can *prove* that Lee has cheated you, although I can't get you your mudflaps, I'll pay you back for the price you paid for them.
Didn't you used to be in Idaho?

I can only echo what Dave said. Lee is as good as it gets in this hobby.

Finally, after more than two months, Lee e-mailed me to say he shipped the mud flaps out. Why no contact before that? He never said. Hopefully I get them soon, because he promised them before too.

And Dave, yes I am in Idaho. I've dealt with Lee before on eBay without a problem, but this time he wasn't answering e-mail and would not contact me. I felt if I posted here, maybe it would shake something loose. Looks like it worked.

I've actually dealt with you on eBay before too. Remember the Cal-Look issue with the split cover?? Wink

Neil, like most of us the VW thing is a hobby and when life gets busy VW stuff gets pushed to the bottom of the list. I could understand if it was a part that was needed quickly for you to be upset. Yes he had your money and didn't communicate with you, but sometimes you haev to trust someones reputation. I'm sure you have waited more than two months for parts to come from Europe.

Sure do, and I still have it. Interesting bit of trivia on that cover- the bored-looking lady standing out of the sunroof, is none other than Linda Dill, who still works for HVWs as the advertising person. If you call, and have a problem with your ad, you will most likely talk to the original "Cal-Look cover girl" (She doesn't like to make a big deal out of it, and pooh-poohs it every time someone brings it up, but, it is her...)
The second time around, the model was Gina Wright, whose mom, Judy Wright, owns Wright Publishing, publishers of HVWs and Sand Sports. She works there still, as well, as the Office Manager. If you call Wright Publishing, and have a problem with your subscription, chances are, you will talk to the 2nd "Cal-Look Cover Girl"
There's some useless information for you-

I don't understand this philosophy where, once a seller receives money for a part or parts it's OK to sit on shipping it for weeks or months before sending it out, because "this is just a hobby". Sorry, I disagree. Sellers are ALWAYS in a hurry to have you send your bread- I ALWAYS get "X amount of people are Emailing about it, so if you want it, send payment NOW" when I ask about something. If you get paid today, SEND THE DAMN THING OUT TOMORROW!!! That way, it's DONE and OVER WITH. Why put it off? I don't care WHO you are! It's only Good Business 101.

This is just so wrong.

You take someone's money and it's OK to "sit on it for as long as life takes to become unbusy?"

Remind me to never send you my money.

Like Tram said, if you have someone's money, then send the damn parts! This is an example of how someone's reputation can become tarnished - quickly.

Well, I finally got them today. Personally, I think 2 months and 9 days is a little too long to receive an item if there is an expectation of the item being shipped earlier. Just to recap: I made payment on 13 June 06. He was going to send it out right away. I e-mailed him on 6 July to ask about the status. On 7 July he said he would be sending it the next day. Then my e-mails went unanswered until 19 Aug when he said that he had sent them the previous day. There was a little expectation of delivery when he twice had stated he was sending them out. I make my living selling things on eBay. In my auctions I state that I ship out every Friday, and I have done so for the past 7 years. As far as waiting for something from Europe for 2 months, yes I have done that, but I have done that with the expectation that it was going to take that long. When I entered into this sale with Lee, I expected he was a man of his word and would send them right away like he stated. If he had a problem with it, he should have e-mailed me and said it would take a while. I'm an understanding guy. A little communication is all it would have taken.

OTOH, after posting here in the feedback and having his friends see it, I did receive the mud flaps quite quickly.

I agree 100% that communication is absolutely the key when being involved in any transaction. Glad to hear that the parts will be with your 6 other sets of mudflaps in your collection. Be sure to give the rest of us the details on the quality.

Just my two cents here,

I know Lee Hedge personally and well respected individual.
numerious times he helped with my 2 type 34 projects.

I saw Lee on July and he was in process of moving his house from Vista CA to Poway CA, I believed this was a reason of the delay.

Glad everything went well.

To bad that happened, but Lee is really a stand up guy.

i am currently having issues with lee.
the non communication , is one.
i am trying to remain calm, but after a year, crappy communication despite my mailing him repeatedly, now the cost of 60 bucks, i still do not have anything to show for all this aggravation.
thank you lee, thank you.
ok Lee,.. what is my year worth?
what is your ignoring me worth?
how much did Larry charge you for the panels?
did he charge you 5 bucks for tape too?

ok,.the story behind this,
over a year ago (December 2009),..Larry offered a free brick red panel set to the t-34 club members, i happened to be the first one to speak up as my panels are gone for the most part.
a wonderful gesture on larry's part,. and again i still thank him.
Lee,... decided to jump in this and demanded he get them first as his needing them for patterns was more important then my need and i was assured it wouldn't be that long, so Larry sent them to Lee.

well,..6 months ago i reminded lee he still had the panels (and got NO response to my 2 e-mails) i let it slide and then in December (2010) again I e-mail lee not once, but twice and only get a snub blowoff after i post a 3 reminder over the t-34 mailing list.
after finally getting some communication after Christmas, he agrees to send the panels to me,.. i even paypaled him the money for shipping them,. despite he paid NOTHING for them . it's now February and no panels.
i grow tired of waiting.
i grow tired of being blown off and i grow tired of the non communication.
i really don't care if this gets me blackballed in the T-34 community,
nothing is worth this.

also know before it went this far,.i consulted quite a few well placed VW People about how to handle this who also know Lee, i do not take this step lightly.

Wait a minute... Didn't you essentially do him a favor by letting him "borrow" your door panels to make a pattern?

Tell you what... that's real arrogance right there, Frankie.

My time is valuable to those that deserve & earn it. All the others get my time when I have time to give. Your box was mailed today, along with one to France, one to GB, and one to New Zealand. I hope not to hear back from you again, as our business is concluded.

do whatcha gotta do lee.. i'll do what i gotta do.
a pity, i even thought you was a stand up guy in the first place and agreed to your "demand" that you get the panels first.
i see now your underlying motivation was "me first" and screw anyone in your way.
i sure hope you don't treat your other customers like that.
i am glad quite a few share my observation on how you operate.

again,.i do not care if this gets me blackballed in the t-34 world, i didn't get my 34 to impress anyone or to slip in the backdoor of some snobatorium.
most i have dealt with over the years have been straight up folk.

Wait a minute... Didn't you essentially do him a favor by letting him "borrow" your door panels to make a pattern?

Tell you what... that's real arrogance right there, Frankie.

that's exactly what happened - Frank was nice enough to allow the panels to go to Lee first, and then waited over a year to get them back, even though he paid Lee for shipping...

nice to know who matters...

i'm not sure it was worth all the aggravation and the blatant snobbery i had to deal with.
i would NOT deal with him again for any reason.

Wait...

1) Foxx lends Hedges panels as a template for one of Hedges' projects.
2) Hedges has Foxx pay shipping to get his own panels back that Foxx lent to Hedges as a favor.
3) Hedges makes Foxx wait an incredibly unreasonable amount of time to get said panels back and responds in an Email that Foxx is basically just a nobody who hasn't "earned" Hedges' time.

Frank, you're a prick sometimes but binness is binness and nobody deserves that type of treatment.

Just wow. Shocked
