oh no,.he did ask for it (shipping),..and mentioned 5 bucks for a roll of tape.
i paid it ALL to get this ridicules fiasco done.
it's worth it to get it over and move on to the bad press.

I'm sorry, Frank - I thought you offered to pay for shipping out of goodwill and the hope of bringing this to a quicker conclusion...
I had no idea that not only did he hold the panels for over a year, but then demanded to be paid for shipping and the cost to package them up you when they were your panels to begin with....

Frank, take my comments for what you will. I read your first post early this morning and have had awhile to think about your situation with Lee. I find it very interesting that you posted on the Samba a transaction that did not happen here. Lee was not selling or buying anything. You had the opportunity to say yes or no to Lee's request. I can understand your aggrevation at the lack of response from Lee and the response when it came to be less than positive, but realistically you are not waiting on a part to get your car going or to finish off your huge restoration project. As far as I can tell your car is not ready to hit the road quite yet. Having known Lee for over a decade, I feel that he has done more for type 3's and type 34's than most people, like starting NONA, the T34 registry, and now the T34 World Website. Why did he wantg the panels? So that he could make authentic looking repops because currently they do not exsist. Yes I am a Lee supporter, as is Notchboy and many others who have been on the recieving end of his generosity. He was a valuable asset when I helped GizmoBob get his T34 up to par. He followed that up by helping me get my own t34 for FREE. He freely gives his advice to those who need it and is willing to share parts when needed.
Bottom line is that for the most part Lee is a great guy. Yes, some people have had their issues with him but they need to get over it and see the bigger picture. This is a hobby for most of us. We have families and jobs that keep us busy. Sometimes VW's DO have to take a back seat. I feel for you, knowing what is like to try to help only to have it lead to frustration. I would suggest that next time you keep your non samba problems private and pick up the phone and call Lee.

i spent quite a few weeks talking with quite a few about how to handle this, and i am handling it as i see fit.
i do not need to affix my lips on Lee's butt or swing from his nads.
i was asured that it wouldn't take long,.. but it did,.. i tried to be reasonable and COMMUNICATE, but Lee didn't want to be or do either.
you swing the way you want to, i'll handle my snubbery from Lee that way i want to.
my timetable and my time is mine to spend, i don't care if you think you can suddenly a gauge of what i deserve,..i wanted what i was promised,.no less.
who the fuck are you to decide what i am allowed and not allowed to have?
"oh lets not anger the Lee Hedges T34 God, his little toadies might smite you!"
just because i don't have any new pics of my car,.doesn't mean i am not working on it.
i just think how it is so funny how you can join in to offer excuses on shitty behavior
AGAIN after Christmas, i talked to Lee and explained i Too have a family,. a house bills work and all the bullshit associated with it.
my time is just as precious as his.
i am not gonna kiss anyone's ass. but i will treat anyone fairly, given COMMUNICATION!!!!!!!!again, lee was offered both and thought it was best to insult and snub me.
so be it.
again,..another prime example of the snottery attached to the t34 club.
i do not need to "get over it" just to protect one Elitist Jerk no matter how much he does for the hobby.

Problem is, is that for Frank this is the only Lee Hedges that he has seen. I know that Lee has done a lot for the T34 hobby but that doesn't excuse not communicating and then coming back with attitude.
And this was a Samba deal AFAIK, because IIRC Lenny posted the availability of these panels here, where both Frank and Lee saw it.
I can understand being busy. I cannot understand not dashing off an Email, or coming back basically saying "you're not worth my time, sorry".
And, from this FB thread, this isn't a unique experience.

I never once mentioned that I thought Lee's actions we ok or justified or ???. I would be upset if it happened to me. I questioned your putting this on a forum that should be to help others make decisions on whom they do business with and not to air your problems with transations outside this site. You made a decsion to lend the panels to Lee. You have learned a lesson. Maybe others will too when thinking about doing business with Lee. I am not an ass kisser ro a t34 snob. I was simply relaying my experiences with Lee just as you have done. Was it not ok for ME to do so? Lee is a big boy and can defend himself as he sees fit. Posting what you have will not draw him here.

I totally agree that perception is reality. This was not a Samba deal as I remember this being posted on the t34 list from Larry Edson

there was some behind the private scenes who tried to help to no avail.
i also told lee in private i didn't want to take this to a public forum and it become a shitstorm well before he decided to get all snobby with me.
i don't care if my car is in parts in the shed, i askd for what was promised,
even if just to hang it on my wall,... because lee wasn't supposed to hang them on his wall and a year is long enough to trace them as patterns.
it was his reputation and his standing that convinced me that it would be ok to let him have them first, i shouldn't have to let his reputation and his standing dictate how much BS i should have to live with or write off with an "Aww Shucks"

Admittedly off topic, but just wanted to mention that I admire your character. It is so rare these days to find somebody to admit a mistake - no matter how minor - acknowledge it, and move on.
People just don't do that anymore these days. Bravo. If I am ever lucky enough to run into you, I'm buying.
