The Ghia-specific item is very hard to find! I exploited my European contacts a few years ago and bought what I understood was the last NOS one left in Germany - just the inner cable element, not the housing, mind you...

The KG item is around 10 inches longer than the equivalent Oval Window Beetle cable. Bus cables are the same length as the Beetle units, IIRC.

This would work for the cable housing, but not the cable itself. I'll chat with my old pal John Copello - perhaps between he and I we can come up with an easily available solution. The solid steel cable stock is easy enough to find; the end with the knurled nut and shaft will need to be fab'ed. _________________ David Ruby

John is a remarkable machinist. If anyone can make it happen, he can. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

I replaced my wire by using the original knob and piano wire. Too bad I forget where I came up with the piano wire. Cut off 1/2" of the metal rod and file square. Drill a small hole in the end. Kind of tricky to do if you can't find a drill press. Insert the wire and solder with silver solder. It has worked for me for years. _________________ https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/56ghia/cover.jpg |

Try CIP1.com part vwc-113-711-501. Looks like the right part to me, I bought one but have not installed it yet. It's looks complete, everything but the knob on the end. I'll really be bummed if it's too short.....

That'll be too short. The part with the "113" prefix is the Beetle one... Look for one with a "141" prefix... _________________ David Ruby

Thanks for the ideas....I'm going to try adding to the short bug cable first by welding it together. If that idea flops, I'll move on to swanlakers idea. If that fails, I'll try a sail boat shop....riggings! Thanks again, I'll let you know. _________________ Transporter Restorations

If you guys repop one , put me down for one . I have been looking for one for my freinds 58 for a year now . None of the ones listed at the usual vendors will work , if it has a bug or bus part number , forget ordering it , it will be too short . TROY
Also looking for a NOS Ghia choke cable !!!! _________________ Pres. Rivercity VW Club www.rcvwclub.org

That's how I got into refurbishing fuel senders. Someone can help a lot of people out by taking the time to re-pop them and make them available. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

John Copello dropped by my house last night and we discussed the idea of making choke cables. I'm hoping we'll have a prototype up in a couple weeks. Keep you all posted... _________________ David Ruby

I thought mine was missing from my '59 - - - but then found it tucked in the trunk! That is about the only lucky thing that has happened with my '59! |
I ran into the same thing - I started researching sources, and then I found it coiled up underneath the gas tank. _________________ -Thom

I'm pretty sure I found a solution to the problem......a local speedo shop has a cable thicker in diameter.....yet it still slides thru the tube with no problem.
My only worry now is if the thicker cable will some how effect the performance of the choke? I'll find out soon enough. _________________ Transporter Restorations
