shit, i tripped out when i saw this pic....i dont post in the bd forum....because its too sad that i dont own one anymore..

the old 53's first trip in man y years. blew the old bias ply...that explains the 15 incher. also broke a spring plate and pulled it and had a good old boy weld it on a saturday night. hade her all buttoned up for the next days show.

too funny as this wasnt really that long ago. my buddy bought it for 120 bucks delivered in denver. i then traded him about 600 bucks worth of parts for
it.

i saw that a couple of racks pictured in this thread that have rubber feet are hercules racks.
i believe that the one on ev's old kombi is a hercules.
theres one in denver that ive been trying to get my hands on for years that also has its original rack mounted tent on it.[[img]

This rack come with my 1954 Kombi. Mybus came from Italia. Is this a home brew job or some crazy Italian rack job?? I can't seem to find any markings on it as to who manufactured it or if it's a pirateria (home made job) ?????

Have any of you guys ever come across something like this? It sits perfect on the bus and it about the same legnth as a full metal roof rack.

That's a tough looking rack. Are the wood slats held on with rivets or screws? How does it clamp on?

Note: I heard that those racks were used by the Italians to smuggle guys in large wardrobe trunks across the border into France, Switzerland and Austria. Somebody told me that Italy is the Mexico of Europe. This worked well because the customs officials were too lazy to climb up on the roof to check inside.

What are your plans Johnny?

I want to clean it up first, before I make the final descision. Or if the Bus Farmers snatch it away.

Todd.......I found those lever shocks for you trick. I will give them to my twin brother.......Richard Stewart to bring up to you.

And yes, some serious smuggling has been done with this rack. I smuggled Gibbs and his posse from Meh Hee Koh, using this rack. REALLY!

We will need to meet at an undisclosed location as to avoid surveillance. Have him call me. He can also bring the rack, I'll clean it up.
