|
|
Probably another well worn topic, but when I search the archives with the word 'weight' in it, I get all kinds of oil information
Wondering how much my 81 Air Cooled, plain old, vinyl seats, rubber floor mats, vanagon weighs?
Is this kind of data recorded on a web site somewhere for all vanagons? Given the wealth of info on these things, I figure it ought to be somewhere for reference.
My door tag only gives the GVW at 5640 lbs, but I would be shocked to find that the plain vanagon in 81 weighed more than about 3400 lbs as delivered from the factory. After all, it doesn't even have a glove box door! <g>
Just wondering how to find this out. Don't have any truck real handy.....
Thanks,
Mark |

I had my base model '84 weighed a few months ago. It came in at 3466.
I would guess that an aircooled would come in just a bit less due obviously to the added water cooling items plus the liquid involved. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

The weight info should be on the sticker on the "left doorjamb', according to page 85 of the Owners Manual.
However, in the event that your sticker is missing or painted over, according to vanagon.com, the curb weight of a 1980 Vanagon L is 3137 lbs, the gross weight (vehicle weight plus mximum load weight) is 5072 lbs.
Your 81 should be the same. _________________ OG JHC

I drive an 82 diesel, with about 2000lb of supplies in it 5 days a week. On weekends I drive my wife's 91 GL, almost empty.
Once a month I get into my old 80 Westy to give it some exercise, and, WOW! is that thing ever light. A completely different beast than the others. Reminds me of an air cooled Porsche because it is so light to the touch.

No glove box, just what some folks call a shelf, which is the space in the dash for the junk, with no door... <shrug>
I did buy a glove box years ago on ebay, but to this day have never figured out how to attach the latch to be in the proper place, so its sits up in the garage attic with all the other things I never got around to doing properly
Thanks,
