Just to corraborate what I am reading in the manuals, to remove the rear drums on my '72:

1) Remove tire
2) Release Emergency Brake
3) Loosen adjusting stars
4) Remove two small hex bolts on drum
5) Wallah, drum just pops off!

This seems too easy to be accurate? Is there a real life scenario anyone could share with me?

Thanks

Also any tricks to turning the adjusting stars. Screwdriver is ineffective so far. I gave them a dose of rust remover and will let them sit for a while.

The real life senario includes big hammers and pry bars, and the likely removal of the axle nut which means big wrenches and cheater bars.

Unfortunately, all to common. My guess is that the average bus owner hasn't adjusted his rear brakes ever and uses only the front disks.

Our buses have brakes in the rear too??? lol

Seriously the adjusters may take a well-directed rap or two to break free also, or even a small screwdriver wedged in as a 'spreader', while the adjuster tool backs off the actual adjustment setting.
