The two barndoors at the 'estate' auction were rumored to have sold for 2500-3500 Cad each. |

OK... I may be the last person to have figured this one out, but for those who are slower than I am...
The same person who posted these sneeky posts, appears to be the proud new owner of this bus!
congrats buddy
Please keep us up to date on any progress with it's restoration. (lots of pictures please)

I know it was for sale for 35k. don't think he got that......how much do you think it's worth considering what barndoors are going for now a days? |

Kintail, weren't you at the auction back in '03? you have seen this bus in person. what do think this bus is worth? how bad was the rust? Didn't you buy the other barndoor that day.. |

this bus went up for auction back in 2003 and I know some of you bus people up in Canada have seen this in person. what did you think it should have sold for? from what I understand the bus is not going to UK. |

I've looked at the pictures too. There is a good amount of rust but nothing that can't be replaced. From what I understand this bus came out of the factory single color which I would think makes it even more rare than most. Also believed to be the 17th oldest known 23 window barndoor. Even for 25k canadian seems worth it. |
...and from the barndoor gallary: "new home"

I don't know the details but based on what was posted in the past, I'd be surprised if it went for much more than $20K US. |
my guess is $26k!

|
|
After waiting 2 months I finally received my birth certificate for the 1953 deluxe.
VIN 20-051 794
Model# 24 G, VW Micro bus deluxe
Engine # not avail., 25 bhp, 1.1 liter
Color: PRIMED
Built: May 18, 1953
Left Factory: May 20, 1953
Country of destination: Germany
Options: M 031 Type 24 in primer
Since there was speculation on whether this bus came from the factory in primer this answers the question. Also, the paint job that was on the bus was the original paint which I now have pictures of the original owner on vacation in the bus. |

these are pictures of the original owner in Manitoba, Canada on vacation. I believe this is the original paint since the bus was delivered in primer.
Is it rare for the bus to be delivered in primer? |

First of all, those pictures are fantastic!
I was just thinking last night that I should send you a pm to ask if you had sent for a birth certificate. I guess you were one step ahead of me.
As far as the paint is concerned, I think we both know that the whole bus was brown biege before it was green!
So technically, the original paint was primer, the next paint was brown beige, and probably soon after the bus was painted two tone green. Not to mention some patches of bright red here and there that I could not figure out. Two say that the green was the original paint job is a bit of a stretch.
In fact, to say that the guy in the picture (Werner), was the original owner of this bus is also speculation. ...Unless you have proof of that also?
Sorry about all the nay-saying. I'm just bitter that I didn't buy it when I had the chance |

my question is what is the fate of this bus?
i remember everyone saying it was rusty as hell, are you gonna get all the metal work fixed or are you gonna sell it before that?
would you consider putting it back in primer or painting it brown again? |

say around 140 BD DLX survivors known
perhaps 5 or so thought/suspected to be delivered in primer?
1. this one, the Green Flash
2. the new dutch Photoshop bus
3. yellow signwritten Courtesy Car (cut up)
4. matt devine's? or was this not originally primer?
5. ? _________________ -StockRocks-

Cool Bus. Hope you do just to it and put it on the road, unlike most folks who do own BD's sit on them for many years fantasizing a full blown car show restoration. DRIVE THAT MUG!!! |
