I`m one of the guys with a cd-changer under my left seat. I know I can replace it with an Ipod or something. The something is a Carputer and a 10.4" lcd touchscreen. Gonna run phone, navigation, music, video and son on from it;) The carputer size? Just like a normal CD-player. 60 GB harddrive;)
Anyway.... Under my right seat I got comlete Auto warm-up from Defa. Heater-fan in front of the saet. Under there are all the connections and a battery-charger
I add 2 pictures of it :

Yeah... just don't go across the canada border. I've been stopped there so many times...

Especially when going north from the Glacier NP area. That little-used border seems to have the most 'nosey' agents working there.
My wife and I were held up for nearly 40 minutes there once, while they dug through ALL of the supplies we had with on our 6 week trek. (even took the time to open and smell all 14 rolls of film I had taken thus far.)
they almost didn't let me bring in my leatherman! (had to go ask someone if it was ok) |
OMG! I got held up at that station for 3 hours this summer! They pulled EVERYTHING out of all my cabinets, went through my girlfriends laptop looking at all the files, went through the history and old text messages on our phones swiped the lighter I use to start the stove with a special 'drug particle wipe' etc etc.
The bad cop kept saying, "Look man I know you've got some drugs in here. Just tell us where you hid the stash and save us both a lot of time okay?" while the good cop was all "you can smoke yourself silly once you're across the boarder, I don't really care, but you can't bring anything over so just tell us where the weed is okay?"
Of course they didn't find anything, but insisted on treating us like criminals just because we were driving an old VW van. It really pissed me off, and I'll probably never go back to Canada because of shit like this. [/rant] |

Aw dont feel bad about canada because of 2 beauracrats (sp?) at the border...what did you loose...time? the rest of us love you.
I took the high speed ferry from Boston to nova scotia and low and behold..there were the canadian border folks. I should have known they were there..what was i thinking.
They went through the whole van (yes vdubtech it was a 79 bay window ya silly goon) and eventually came across a box of matches in the glove box with a roach i had forgotten about. It was a leftover from a bugs bunny film festival at the local theatre and was about 6 months old...all dried up.When they touched it the thing disintegrated.
Thats when they really wanted to know what else we had in the van.I was already mad because you could tell they only pulled us over because it wa as a vw.
Well the wife is a vet tech and she was carrying a syringe full of euthanal...this is a drug used for putting animals to sleep. She wanted to make sure we could dispose of anything we may hit on the road...keep in mind we started in b.c. went across canada then down to new york/florida and back up the coast and all through the maritimes and back across canada...she figured we might wipe out a few wild things along the way.
The border folks classified it as a barbituate and put on the rubber gloves and told us they could go up our bums now if they wanted too. It was a scare tactic and but she was pretty freaked.
They put us in different rooms. The lady interogating me asked if i could handle a rectal exam? I said "hell i havent been able to get the wife to go there for 10 years..bring it on babe"
They let us go shortly after.
Moral of the story? Disppose of any bugs bunny weed after the show and ALWAYS clean the hell out of your van before leaving on a trip if you smoke weed or allow friends to smoke in your van...do the most thorough clean of your life and rest easy at all border crossings. |

I ran the second battery, AMP and capacitor under the driver seat. I don't think there is enough room for proper sub instalation unless it is a 3" sub.
Nice write up. _________________ 1987 Wolfsburg T25 still riding out. A bunch of other VW's passed on... |

I put one of those under the driver's seat of my GL (which already has this spot open from the factory). Tres bien .
Doesn't rattle the windows, but certainly compliments the door speakers nicely. It's only an 8" woofer so it doesn't hit the super low lows, but definitely helps. I think they make a 10" big brother, which would get tight, but as I recall it might fit. The 600 I got was probably the nicest addition to the sound system I've done. And it's totally hidden!
As far as the butt-rattling...it definitely feels like there's a sub under your seat. The bass doesn't quite make it to the back and is a little louder in the driver's seat than the pass, which is almost a plus-- I'm the one that wants to unleash the full fury of the stereo, and the GF probably wouldn't appreciate the butt massage and isn't the audiophile I am .
But seriously, there's no going back once you get one _________________ -Elliot

Excuse my ignorance - I'm new to this whole Vanagon thing . . . but does a regular Vanagon (non-Westy/camper) have that cool hidden space too? I could keep my purse in there!
