My new 63 sunroof notch needs floor pans, easier to swap the running motor into the new notch than build a freshie. Damn, I hate to destroy a perfectly good, running, titled original car, but no one wants to make the trip to beautiful SW colo to buy it. The notch needs rockers too, add up all the parts I need and it makes financial sense but still... Man I hate to do it.

pull the motor and park the car, take what you need but don't destroy the car

It would stupid to destroy that Squareback.

I'm surprised someone wouldn't buy it, even a local non-VW person just to have a vintage driver.

Maybe you're asking too much for the square.

If I take what I need the car is history - pans and rockers.

I don't know if stupid is the right word, economically it makes sense. I think sacreligious or a damn shame is more like it.

Asking too much? Top dollar for a square in that condition surely. And thats the problem. Our beloved type 3's don't fetch the money that other vw's do. Combine that with all the stuff that you can't get repro and it makes them not worth restoring. Take this square- easy body resto, no rust repair at all, runs and drives now, just light body work, respray and a complete interior would have someone a restored car. Whats that gonna cost? Including labor it would more than the car would be worth, even if I sold it for half of what I'm asking.

i have a good pan sitting at my house... , i am sure others closer to you do too... just buy a pan for the notch and do the swap. save the square and eventually it will sell...

2 parts t3's in my yard, both with rotted pans. Only 1 in any junkyard within 200 miles, rotted too. I did buy the bend over priced rockers from cip, if they are any good I'll use them. If I can come up with a pan I'll put away the plasma cutter.

It would be a damn shame to part out that car. It looks very well taken care of and maintained for not having a complete restoration. Perhaps if you put an "obo" next to the $2500 tag, it might sell easier. If I had the extra cash, I'd buy it myself to replace my girlfriends Ford Escort wagon.

When I'm looking for a car, I want more/better pictures so I know what I'm looking at before I pick up the phone. It'll sell if you clean it up real nice and take pictures when the sun hits it just right, the "magic hour", early in the morning or closer to sunset. And get the right angles. I can look at the same car in an ad, but the one that has the better picture will get my attention every time. The dead overgrown grass around your picture makes it look like it's been sitting a long time, pick a better location, maybe with trees, it makes it look more alive.

Just stuff to think about.

Exactly. Don't expect the pricing of a Cali car to be the asking price in Georgia Wink

Anyone who would buy a car in that good of condition simply for hacking a couple body parts is ignorant, selfish, and acting like a poacher -- killing an endangered animal for just a couple parts and leaving the rest to rot Evil or Very Mad

It is called "Marketing". Drive by a good used car lot, and look at how they do it. Paint dull?? Wipe it down with diesel fuel on a rag. Tires cracked and dull? Get a bottle of Armor All. Wash the windows, make is shine, then take your pictures.

Yeah, I"m really not a used car salesman. I see what can become of the junk I look at to buy so I just think everyone else out there does the same. I forget that the photography - how it looks in the ad - sells the car. Weeds around the car: Hah! I thought it gave it that country look. Shows what I know about photography and advertising.
I really don't want to kill a perfectly good vw. I'm totally against that. But the parts are worth more to me than what I'm being offered for the car- it's a pisser!!

Bring them down here. I have room to store them.

Yeah, but I want more money than an old corn farmer is going to give me.

Why ruin a good car to fix a piece of shit. sit it out and fix the notch in your spare time. early type IIIs are getting harder to find. If anything find another parts car.
