I'm making new top retaining straps (the ones that hold your soft top in place when it's folded down) for my 73 Thing. I'm using 1" nylon webbing and duckbill tension locks. Everything cost me about three bucks total.

Now, I don't have the original retaining straps on my thing - just a couple of bungee cords - so I don't know what length the stock ones are supposed to be. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

China,
Why don't you just measure how long you need them for your application and cut them to length? my 2cents worth!

I agree with Colorado Thing, that is how I did it.

Yeah, if I had the car in front of me, I'd do just that. Unfortunately, I live in the city and my Thing is parked in a friend's garage a few towns away. I try to do whatever small projects I can at my apartment - this being one of them.

Hey Colorado,

That's cool - I don't want to make you have to go and measure the route - sounds like too much work for such a small thing. I'm going to head out to my friend's garage this Friday, so I'll be able to cut the webbing to fit then. Thanks again!
