Just a quick question from a newbie. What kinds of seats will fit in a Thing, and also, what kinds of different engines can you fit in them
Thanks in advance |

'71-'72 Beetle highbacks will fit (Super or Standard). I have them in my '74 and the seat tracks are the same as the Thing
As to the Engine, any 1600 based motor will fit. Of course, 1500's will fit and the single ports will fit. In fact, if you do a conversion to upright cooling, a type IV will fit. I think the better course for you is to ask about a specific engine if you one in mind.
good luck |

Well, it's hard to tell. Some of that will depend on the condition of the engine, i.e, it's age, number of miles, etc. Also, if it is a stock 1600 with the 34 PICT 3 carb. and everything is in time, tuned up and all, it should do 70 on the highway-but really wasn't built (or geared) to run this way.
This is precisely why the 1600 VW engine is so readily convertible to so much more.
A stock 1600, however, can be awakened with some better carbueration and ratio rockers. |

In my experience a Thing with a strong running/well maintained 1600cc will do 70mph all day long!

If you have the skid plate on your thing you will need a thing or bus case to attatch the rear bracket. Other than that they are pretty much the same. |
