Does anybody know if this is a coat hook or rear seat latch hook? It was found under the rear seat of my Dec 58 coupe. I am missing the coat hooks ( thought they are chromed steel) this part is Aluminium, and it is different to the the rear shelf hook.

I gotta go against the grain.
I think its a coat hook and you will probably find only one of them on the passenger side. |

It's the hook for your shoulder seat belt, so you don't have to keep reaching behind the seat to find it. |

Agreed.
Unless that is your actual car and not a model the hook is next to. In that case the thing is huge and I have no idea what it's for. |

Its either the hook for the strap on the rear shelf when the rear seat back is up or the hold down hook for the strap when in the down position |

And to note, there are two rear seat back hooks, one to keep it up and the other to keep it down. _________________ Sounding like a broken record as to why You should be measuring protein during harvest in order to better your agronomic practices. |

I hadn't noticed the difference before - one is flatter than the other throught the hook. |

True ....one on the parcel tray or rear shelf, and the other on the front seat bottom support (although most of the time these are missing) _________________ House of Ghia specializing in Karmann Ghia parts, service, and restorations. www.house-of-ghia.com |

Interesting thought... I can see how in the up position, the rubber hold'em piece faces correctly back towards the rear parcel shelf. But in the down position, the rubber would have to be bent 180 degrees to hook onto bottom the hook . Or am I missing something? _________________ Sounding like a broken record as to why You should be measuring protein during harvest in order to better your agronomic practices. |

The rubber strap has a metal washer that allows it to spin 360 degrees. _________________ It's not about the window, it's about the people.

I too agree with the rear seat strap hook, compared it with my rear seat strap hook and looks the same to me. _________________ Jim Kikuchi

WOW looks like a boat anchor in retrospect to the size of the car. Could be you drop it out incase of brake failure? _________________ Mike
