I just recently bought this 57 on thesamba from a man in Gainsville Fl,the price was good, needs some work, but very solid, the pics didnt do it justice,I will post a few pics, and update as I go,I do need the following:
1. Complete headlight assembly left and right
2. correct door and rear chrome interior trim
3. A nicer engine lid would be ok
4. bumpers front and rear
5. correct ignition with key,or can I get a key cut from the code on the lock cyclinder in the door handle?
This car is chassis # 1605359, engine # 921126 and is still in the car, original color was Black and was produced on July 12th, 1957. Itwas complete except for the seats , headlights and bumpers. I am planning a complete resto, with a mild custom.I want to update it mechanecly, but will keep everything so it can be returned to stock if need be. I really need some help,I have owned many type 1, type 2 , and type 3's but this is my first Ghia,I plan on keeping this one forever. So any help will be greatly appriciated.
Any and all info to help get this car back to its former glory would be appriciated.

Nice score.
Look up Gabriel - he can cut you a key to your code.
Headlight bits seem to come up FS every now and then - I'm slowly assembling a set.
I'm not having much luck on bumpers, specifically the guards. _________________ -Thom

I've been eyeballing that ad for a few weeks.
I convinced myself to leave it alone and stay focused on my 65 Ghia. I told myself "Self, that's a Florida Ghia. It MUST be as rusty as the one you've got now". Besides, I've had my 65 Ghia since 1991 and geting rid of it now would be like pulling the trigger on Ol' Yeller.
I think you need to build it the way I was envisioning: 3 inch narrowed beam, 3 inch raised tranny, narrowed 10 inches in the rear and rolling on Erco 5 star cutouts. Stock exterior and interior plus roll cage. Power with turbo 2275 and you've got the perfect grocery getter!
So where do you live? Gatorville? _________________ www.LoCashRacing.org

Congratulations on the "new" ghia. Keep us posted with your progress. I would love to see pics as your ghia evolves. www.karmannghia.com is a good resource for parts and their catalog has some invaluable schematics. |

Those Ghias could be fitted with an electrical fuel sender and fuel gauge. I had one I pulled from a 1959, even though it also had the fuel tap. I have both, at the moment; however, I am trying to rebuild the fuel sender.
Looks like a nice score. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |
