I have a 1967 European Sunroof Bug with the locking steering column.
The electrical portion is not operable. The electrical portion that I have found on various sites always references the 36 mm diameter. The one that I have is much smaller. Anyone have any suggestions as to a source?

It's been a while, but I remember the electrical portion being quite different from anything VW ever sold in the US. The pigtail was soldered to the switch.
I had several, and one of them needed the switch to be replaced, which is why I remember it.

I'm looking for one as well. Anyone still working on this?
Eis or pimpride?
The PO drilled a hole in the dash and put a standard switch in. Argh!
I'm hoping to be able to pull out the old and get new internals for it including a 67 VW logo key.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys

The US military service in Europe during the 60's all were required to buy their new VW with US standard equipment. They had to have seal beam headlights, safe glass and front fender mounted turn signals among a few other things.

You could own and drive an older VW without US Standards but you couldn't get it shipped back to the US.

I’m considering purchasing a 1967 “European”bug any advice? Or parts any more difficult to acquire or replace? ignore the attached photo not sure how to upload? the bumpers have rubber tips on the overriders (front and rear), which I believe were stock on this model?

Got pics of those rubber tips? Euro models rarely had the USA "Ram Protection" option (towel bars/overriders), which also lacked rubber tips.

A Euro '67 is a great car! My brother had one. 1500 models had the Ghia front disc brakes (and with them the 8-slot 4-lug wheels and later hubcaps). Still 6V, single speed wipers, no 4-way flashers, VW1500 decklid script, older front fenders with glass covered headlights. His had the steering lock. It was likely a gray market car, with MPH speedo and laminated windshield, but the amber-top Euro taillights that had been dyed red on the inside. I miss that car!

USA on the left, Euro on the right.
