i'm at work and not having the best of days but decided i was done working and i'd have a look at some craigslist ads for vws. i found this: https://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/d/vw-bettle-bug/6718160648.html
it's been a frustrating day so when i saw this jazz:
Quote: |
Body is 100% solid. Car needs floor pan attention like all bugs. Has had aluminum pans put it in completely solid good for daily driving |
i'm thinking, wth does that all mean? get your story straight. some people... |

I rarely add to these whines, but this ad from Spokane caught my attention for its originality:
https://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/d/1979-vw-beetle-convertible/6721995953.html
Never have I seen a car that was actually in the Stiftung Museum! _________________

Probably bought the car and that birth certificate paperwork was with it. I have the same paperwork, so I know how I will promote mine when I sell it .
Anyone looking for "The only Diamond Blue 1969 Deluxe Beetle Autostick to be in the Stiftung Volkswagen Auto Museum and shipped that same year to the US and sold!"? _________________ Chris & Chris

I've had a few cars in that museum- and I'll be the first to say it knowing the quality of my cars, they're curator sucks. _________________

I see this fairly often in the Samba Classifieds. “Bug for sale. Will trade for a bus.”
No shit? Look at the prices for buses, and tell me who in their right mind will trade a decent bus for a decent Bug?

Iowa seems to be popping up with river blue metallic 79 Supers suddenly....
So there's this one:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2182078
Which is a bit ridiculous price. And then there's this one:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/784607081621212/pe...nger_share
Which seems to be a pretty good value. _________________ I'm the humblest guy on this board.

Given the vintage, low mileage and overall condition, except for that deflated passenger seat, seems reasonable to me.
that 2nd one looks like a steal. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.’”

I'm a rookie looking to get educated on car values.
From what knowledge I have gained, the 60s and earlier bugs have significant value (completely understandable).
That said, why is it I am always seeing the late 70s (76 and later specifically) beetles so highly advertised? It seems as though the early 70s models ask the least amount of money at sales. To add to this, late 70s convertibles are PROUD of their asking price. Is it because these were the last years of US beetles?
I own a 1971 Super Beetle. It isn't personal, but I have just noticed it more and more lately in for sale ads. |

I'm not sure if this is true of regular Beetle vs. Convertibles but I know A LOT of people bought the last Beetle Convertibles as investments. There seem to be a lot of those out there, often in super nice condition and even with really low mileage. Unfortunately for them because a lot of people did this, they were not some super awesome investment, especially if they were not kept up in pristine condition. _________________ How to Post Photos

This^^
In the last couple of years, several of these "investment", last year produced bug convertibles were put in auto auctions. They were 79's and 80'. The mileage was like less than 30 miles on them. Like Everett stated, they were bought, stored and never used back then. These VW's looked like they just came off the factory floor.
If I remember right, these brand new, never used convertibles sold in the $45-55k range based on color combos. I don't think these basically brand new last year produced convertibles are that rare either which was reflected by those prices. The other factor is not many people would buy one of these now because driving it would lower it's value.
I think the buyers were rich folks who wanted one in their car collections. I bet a few are now sitting in successful VW dealerships lobbies too. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Just installed new inner and outer window scrapers from West Coast Metric. I have to say, i'm not very impressed w/the fit of the aluminum frame or the quality of the clips that attach to the door. They're not formed w/the indent up enough so that they clip into place properly, and have like three fewer clips than the factory scraper. I actually replaced three of the installed clips w/the factory clips off of my old VW-stamped scraper. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.’”

That thing's got $400 worth of Autozone crap on it. Too bad he had to cross-pollinate a VW Trends look with Aisle six bling. _________________
