My car developed serious engine problems driving across country. I was stuck in Iowa trying to figure out what to do. I found Russ through The Samba. He gave me directions to his house, diagnosed my problem, gave me the option of him fixing it or leaving it at his house where I could arrange a transporter to pick it up. Then he gave me a ride back to my hotel.
I had him do the work. He was very fair in his pricing of used parts even though I was in no position to negotiate. When I flew back to pick up my car, he met me at the airport and had arranged things so we didn't even have to go back to his house to drop him off. My car is running great.
Great mechanic. Great guy. _________________ '71 Convertible

I usually check with or aggravate Russ before buying anything. Don't tell him but I only ask for a price to know what to pay. He is a real asset. |

I have been fortunate enough to have benefitted from much of Russ' advice and infinite knowledge of type 3's...recently bought some hard-to-find linkage for Solex carbs from him...he sent me exactly what I needed very promptly and as promised. How nice to deal with a respectable and honorable man! I would highly recommend transactions with Russ-but only if you want to be treated fairly! |

I just got back from spending a very nice afternoon with Russ and Marilyn. We had a lot of fun BSing about cars, and he let me try out his '69 Fasty.
I bought a pair of his rebuilt SP heads (new valves/guides, flycut, three-angle valve job, re-studded where necessary, and thoughtfully coated in Cosmoline), some thick-gauge Beetle pan sections, and a Thing window bag he happened to have lying around.
There were a handful of other parts I was thinking of buying, but I'll save them for another trip.

I've purchased a few items and traded a couple of times with Russ too. He is the first person I talk to anymore partly because he's reasonable, but mainly because his knowledge of VW's far exceeds most, and he will tell you if your trying to use the wrong part. Few people will talk you out of buying a part. |

I just received a type 3 part from Russ a day or two ago. What can I say? Seamless, that's what. He's easy to deal with & honest. I sent him 2 payments by mistake & I got a refund almost immediately.
The part I ordered arrived sooner than expected & in the condition just as described. Russ is a trusted name / personality in the VW / Type scene... & he's got lots of little type 3 gems. Thanks again, Russ.

asked Russ for advice and he offers me the parts I was hesitant about ordering from overseas! not just that, but he threw in some extra stuff to boot, packed it really well and shipped almost instantly.
oh, and on top of everything, the main part he sent turns out to be NOS, which I didn't even expect. nice bonus!
can't go wrong with Russ. |
