so the speedo stop working a long time ago and now that it has goten colder out here in the northeast the gas gauge is acting up. before it used to show the full tank when i filled it up but now when i fill it up it only shows half a tank? do i need to reach in the back and pull that thing out and clean it up? and the speedo. now the cotter pin is on down at the hub but it spins? For it to work right it shouldn't spin right? i need the gas gauge and a working speedo would probably be a good idea. any help? oh and its a 66 bus thats 12v. _________________ Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

Sounds like your speedo cable broke somewhere in the cable housing like mine did twice! If your speedometer is original it may need to be oiled up at the cable input....or rebuilt, If the speedometer is not running smoothly it can cause the cable to bind up and break like mine did. I replaced my speedometer with an after market racing one but there are guys out there that restore your original if you want to keep it that way. Midamerica carries cables www.mamotorworks.com As far as your gas gage goes you may need to check all of your wiring connections for the sending unit. Make sure you dont have a loose connection or broken wire. Its been noted before in other thread posts in here that sending units go bad over time. I have a 59 panel with no gas gage so I have to be aware of my milage at all times when ever I take her out. A luxury I don't have. Keep us posted on your progress. |

i really need to get this work by next week. another thing is my horn doesn't work and i've clean all the contacts and the horn has been replaced recently. i noticed there was a wire that goes into the steering box, is there a connection in there? i didn't want to go taking that steering box apart just to make the horn work? _________________ Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

If the end of the speedo cable spins in the hub it sounds like you need a new dust cap and most likley a speedo cable too. |
