Just as a side note, the price list I posted above showing red, blue etc was from 1958. Unfortunately there are no photos in that particlar catalog.

Here we go with the photos. Both of these nets are basically identical with exception of the clips. Check it out...

I still don't see the reason for those clips. Maybe they were changed when the headliner material changed. Regardless Jason, you have something special there. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

Breakthrough.............. I went out and checked my rear cargo net and there they are.................the spring clips, but the flat ones are attached to them. You are just missing the flat clips. My rear net is oval era blue grey as is my front net but the front net doesn't have the spring clips. What I think you have is a replacement net made post '52 and incorporating the up-graded clips. The rear net is under so much tension that the spring clips were used to take the stress off the elastic that could be cut by the flat clip's sharp edges. Perhaps VW decided to use that idea with all their replacement nets as well. Here is a picture Glenn took a few years ago and if you look carefully you can see the double clip being used.

Those may be original to the era, but they are not VW issue. The originals had flat clips. The VW part number for the original oval grey/blue rear net was:
11 040 503
Deckennetz
mitte/graublau
clips...111017243
They came is a brown box with VW logo tape wrapped around it.

It's the same clips as on Jasons red net |
Those nets (Jason's) were "post" oval era. What's nice about yours..........The color is correct for an oval. The brown should be used in a split. VW only issued those two colors prior to 1958. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |
