..looks just fine
- as my parts are dirt cheap, i'm gonna have a couple of goes- one folded, one cut , & see what i prefer..
-the Jute is VERY similar in weave to original..
- middle is a piece of my original, left is folded & sealed & right is cut with edge sealed; last one looks best , but is dependant on accurate cutting & has a border akin to a snail's trail in order to avoid the cut edge fraying..
..size comparisson- a reasonable match all round..

ah. The webbing i've found is very similar, and seems the right colour.
The buckle is still in place , but the other side of the strap is decomposing..I'll re rivet a complete new strap to the tray, once i've worked out which 'system ' works best.. _________________ ....just cause you don't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there!.... |

No end on mine Tim..its just cut to a point. I repaired mine using a belt from an army supplies stores, and used the original part i had left for the piece that is showing. _________________ 64 356 C Coupe |

..Ok. I have a 'reasonable' modern equivalent. Natural Jute Webbing is very similar in texture & weave; however i can only find it in 2" widths.
Will post how i get on 'modifying' it
by the way- how did the strap end finish on 'late' BDs ?- a metal 'cap' of somesort, i pressume? _________________ ....just cause you don't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there!.... |

According to the Eccles bus spec guide, the spare wheel strap changed to textile (previously leather) on 8.2.52 (Feb. 8, '52) at chassis 20 021 511. |
The very early straps I have seen were leather, the next generation were some sort of textile (cotton?). The bay window straps are nylon. |

my strap measures 47" from the edge of the tire tray to the end. Annother 2" overlaps the tire tray where it is riveted.
...so 49" total. |

Could you tell me if your strap is all there? And if so how long it is. I have a piece of that stuff but not sure how long it should be.
Thanks everybody else for info. _________________ 64 356 C Coupe |
