went out to the car this afternoon after leaving it there no longer than 15 hours and some douchbag stole my radio and busted up the whole dash. the campus police can't do anything because there are no witness's and no suspects. the whole car was turned upside down as if they were looking for bigger speakers. this really sucks. the car was locked when i left it but when i got back the doors were slightly open. I see how easy it is for them to break in because of the covertible top.

If I'm not mistaken, the pre -84 Jetta's have the same dash if that's any help.

Your best bet is to look at the classifieds in the VW Vortex,
here is the link that will get you there:
Golf I (Rabbit)/Jetta I Parts: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=802
Cabriolet and Cabrio Parts: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=836

The VW Vortex is dominated by watercooled VW enthusiasts as TheSamba is to aircooled enthusiasts.

Oh yeah...also you may want to check out this forum too:
Golf I & Jetta I - Discussion area for the first generation VW Golf (Rabbit) and Jetta produced from 1975 to 1984 including pickup models.: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=11
Cabriolet Discussion forum for all Cabriolet models - http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=152

Why would you want an alarm that sucks? For my money, I'd get one that doesn't suck.

I see the interior light is pulled out, too. Must be standard operating procedure for thieves.

My Saturn got its head unit torn out of the dash more than 10 years ago and instead of flipping the switch on the dome light, they pulled it down and cut the wires. Rolling Eyes I guess it's easier to pull out a light than it is to switch it off.

I found the wire cutters down between the seat and console. The crime unit put it in a baggie when they dusted the car for prints. Yeah, I know, it must have been a slow day for them. I even had to go down and have my prints taken so they could eliminate mine as a suspect from the car.

yeah, funny story, when my head unit got stolen, i waited about 3 hours for the cops to show up, and when they finally did it was a rookie in like, a cavalier with a gumball on the dashboard... we had even had a cop roll past and stop and ask if we were the ones waiting about the break-in and he said he'd be back in a minute and left again.

anyway, long story short, my car got dusted for prints too... lot of good that was gonna do. I'm pretty sure the rookie just wanted to make me feel better by making me think they were actually trying to do something about it... but i told him that i thought he was just looking for an excuse to play with all his cop gadgetry.

they never figured out who did it, i didn't expect them to... insurance didn't want to hear about it, so i got kicked in the ass on that one.

and, it was the 3rd time (i believe) i had my bank card stolen this year.

It sucks when they destroy half the interior to get a CD player they will probably sell for $20 to get a rock or a bottle. My friend's Jetta got broken into last year while we were at a downtown bar. Window smashed with glass everywhere, dash completely destroyed, grovebox torn open, dash bezel and heater controls broken, and they bent the rear seat away trying to get into the trunk. There is no access, and the trunk had been open anyway due to a broken lock. He lost a CD player and an Ipod. It was the middle of winter so we had to collect supplies to cover the window for the ride home. At least when my Jetta was broken into, the thieves were nice enough to remove my CD player and emblems/side molding ( Confused ) gently.

That dash will be the same as any '81+ Cabby, or '81-84 Jettas. If you were local, I'd tell you which yard would have a few.
