OK. Corey

So I call him today to set up a time to meet like we agreed to, and he says "oh didnt i send you an email, well i sold it to someone else..." (no he never sent an email...)

I say well ok if thats how you do business... he didnt seem to upset over it. Its just sad that some people cant be a man of their word. I guess if you want something from Corey, my advice to you is to send money first, ask questions later. Rolling Eyes

So you dick around on the price, make no kind of deposit, flake on him once, and then your pissy when he's sold it to someone else?

Yeah, that's exactly how I read it, too.

In response to this.

First of all this is some funny sXXt. I told you in the list of emails that I had 2 other people interested for the full price. Infact one of them was the guy who bought it and he had been interested in it for months prior.

I am used to a lot of people with bigger eyes than wallets. I am happy to sell to anyone who is serious, but you flaked out on the day you were supposed to come up and this guy finally pulled the trigger.

Sorry for you loss and unhappy feelings.

This is a joke.. and an utter abuse of the Feedback Forum... this bozo try's to low ball him on the price to cover his Gas?? Wahhhhhhh..... and then flakes........ and then cry's like a little girl when it gets sold.

Someone needs a reality check.. or a Nap..... what a friggin schoolgirl... use the forum properly.. if you have a valid complaint.. fine.. but THIS IS NOT a valid complaint against this seller.

cory is aware of my problem and still refuses to make any attempt to make it right. he had a type 3 tach advertised on here not long ago. the ad read:
OG Gossen Type 3 Tach Price: $200

OG Gossen Type 3 tach. Looks to be in good condition. This guage is
untested.

please NOTE the descriptive adjectives and statements on the ad.
in my opinion and others that i have spoke with about this concern agree that the tach was misadvertised if not very boarding on false advertisement. please see the emails. the package came and seemed to be packed well no damage to note.
email 1
Adam,

I do not know anything about the tach. I bought it about a year ago
and was
going to put it into a squareback that I am building, but had the
opertunity
to pick up an NOS one so I never tested this one. Corey

email 2
corey,
whats up? i just got back from being out of town. i
must have missed the mail man with the notice but i
did get the tach on friday may 4. i just got back
from a local speedo/guage repair shop. i had them
test this tach. the said its bad and needs to be
rebuilt/repaired. this shop said that they cant do
it. they have no parts for it.
my first question is do you know who can repair it? i
imagine that being in cali and all that you have
looked into this. plus there probably are way more
places there then here.
second question is.. if you were going to keep the
tach sold this one for why didnt you mentioned that
before so i could have just purchased a woking one
from you?
im going to contact paloalto to see it they can repair
it. if not i dont have much option after that unless
you know of something/someone else?
with this all being said at this time i would like to
see if you and i can work something out on this.
like maybe we can meet half way on this agreed price
that i bought it for? i think 200 for a tach that i
was unknown condition is not too bad. but i think
this tach was a bit more then unknown. the needle
doesnt even move when the gauge is turned around.
i believe we can work something out if i cant get it
fixed.
some options are i thought about after seeing the
other tach you had are possibly sending this one back
to you and working out a price on the working one.
another maybe that we meet in the middle on the price
and i can get a 100 back on this bad tach.
email me back and let me know your thoughts on this.
like i said if i can get it fixed resonably i have not
problem. but if it cant be fixed and/or the cost to
be fixed is far more then the purchase price and
repair price together is more then the cost of the
working one then i think that theres something wrong
there.
cheers
adam

email 3 response
Adam,

I never played around with the tach. I only owned it for a short time
and
that is why I said the condition is unknown. Unfortunately I have
never
worked with any of the guage repair shops, so I do not know their cost
or
processes. I am changing speeds and am scaling my collection way back
due
to family issues. That is the only reason I have put the NOS tach up
forsale. I understand you points, but I am not a shop and do not
guarantee
me sales unless I state that something is in working condition and it
turns
out to be wrong or if damaged in shipping. I am not trying to be a
jerk.

Corey

email 4
corey,
i understand your position and where you are coming
from. but i hope that you can see where im coming
from. i know that you didnt give this away. i know
the price was not bad but i think one could tell from
looking at it there was obviously no motion on the
tachs needle. again i understand what you saying and
thats why i email you to see if we can work this out.
im not asking for a refund i understand the to a
certain point that the condition was unknown. as far
as shipping there was no damage to the box and it
seemed to be packed well.
with all that said im also not saying or implying that
you are a jerk. i just think it would be the right
thing to do and to show some consideration for the
situaition to come up with some options. i have
offered some suggestions and im still working on
finding out if it can be fixed at what cost.
im pretty sure that you didnt pay 200 for this tach.
with that said i am definitely all about trying to
make a few dollars. we all have bumps in the road from
time to time and selling off some of the collection
maybe what it takes.
from or emails on parts and discussions here on the
samba you seem to be reasonable. so what can you
offer at this juncture? in the last email i mentioned
a few let me know if you have any? im a true believer
in good karma and it goes along way. at this point
buying and selling on this site i have had very little
bad experiences.
so work with me on something here..
as im sure you know at this point with the issues you
are experiencing right now 200 dollars doesnt come
easy.
adam

email 4
Adam,

I did pay right at $200 by the time I shipped it from Europe to my
door. i
never tried to check motion of the needle. I never tested it at all.
To be
honest when I received it I put it right in a box of stuff for my car.
As I
said before the only reason I am selling the other tach is because of
changing speeds on some stuff. Family is more important and i am going
to
put all of the VW stuf on hold real quick. I am sorry if you feel that
you
have gotten taken, but you don't even know the cost to fix it yet and
you
are asking me for help. I also beleive in karma and that is why when I
put
it up for sale I stated what I knew and that was that it was untested.
Corey

is where i sent it to and they called me yesterday to
advise me that it basicaly needs everything including
the obvious mentioned in prior emails. if you know of
a better place to send im all ears.
what "HELP" can you give me?
again hopefully we can come up with a good solution.
adam

email 6
ok thats great there have been 2 since yours. whats
does that got to do with this situation? again you
have failed to offer anyhting to ry to make this deal
right. sometimes you lose a bit on deals but not
describing a product better and stating the obivious
broken condition. i think you know that ther is a
difference between broken and unknown/ untested if
not here is the definition:

broken= 2. out of order: no longer in working
condition
unknown=not identified: undetermined or undiscovered

so how i think you are a bit smarted then this and
that anyone who is fairly intelligent could have
notice that the product is broken. if it wasnt 200
dollars and more like say 75-100 dollars so be it.
but unknow/unteseted means that there is a chance that
it does work. you never once said i think its broke.
so just i like suspected you dont stand by your any
type of morality in the business. at this time you
word is crap just like i thought after recieveing the
first reponse on my issue.i belive now due to ou
responses to my email that you misadvertised/discribed
this product. not coming to some kind middle ground
your good karma is in the toliet.
i tried to hold out a bit of faith on this but for you
due to the good references from some 1500 club members
but i see now that you have them fooled too.
so it looks like that i have no choice to file a
complaint with paypal that this was miss advertised by
you. i will then post this ill deal on the feedback
on thesamba.
i think i have given you every chance to try to make
this deal right but you refuse.
remember what karma goes out its bound to return good
or bad. so unless you have something better to do let
me know. hell i may even give you a call.
adam

last email was may 25. still no reponse to date.
basically this guy i think and believe from his emails that he knew all along what the condition of the tach was. no mention in the email of what the po from him described it as. this guy has cast a bad karma on the type 3 crew in my oppinion. which what goes around comes around. his word is not worth a crap. this is the first time i have had any problems on the samba and hopefully the last.
if this was myself i would have offered a refund or some type of compromise.
if you are planning on purchasing anything from this guy i would advise against it. he misadvertised this tach and its clear to me that he would do it again. you are better off making a donation to the samba it will not only make you happier but you will get more use out of it.
in my oppinion he either doesnt want to do the right thing here or he doesnt care about his word on the his parts and or his word in general.

A word of advice: Always assume that ANYTHING "not tested" is bad. He said that right from the beginning. From what I'm reading, it was YOU who made the assumption that this was a pristine, working tach. The seller NEVER told you it worked- In fact, he didn't even say it PROBABLY worked. He didn't even IMPLY that it maybe coulda sorta have kind of worked. Anywhere. He told you twice that it was untested. Then he told you he never used it.

WHY do you think you're entitled to a working tach, money back, and WHY do you feel it was not as described? "NOT AS IMAGINED" is more like it!

Sorry, man, but it is what it is.

tram say what you may and form yourown oppinion too. agreed not tested and not working probably no good. but it was very clearly and NO chance of it working once i had it my hand. this guy i think just didnt tell the whole story on it. and then to top it off a week or two later he has a working one on here for sale. i dont know you but i get a rare part like this im testing it before i just toss it in a box of things to be used to build a car. i dont think he was truthful from the beginning and as you read the email i feel he gave the wait and see what repair cost was before complaining. i didnt want a complete refund i was aware that it may not work. but just was it may not work it may also work ...remember untested and tossed in a box??? suspect to me. i feel if that is the case then offer something. hell even take it back. if you go on theory "i didnt know" the condition
again like i stated im not entitled to anything but some fair/truthful description. had he stated the even more obivious see email then i may have went a different direction. i was cool with paying a bit more on a working that he later posted as long as i got a fair shake here. i tried to work itout with him before i went to here and paypal.
i dont know about you but i think it was and should have been better described. if any question like most send it back if you dont want it. im sure just i bit on it someone else would have if they wanted bad enought....
is what it is?

All I'm saying is that if the tach was any good, the seller will usually point that out. Would you buy an untested vintage car radio and expect it to work?

point taken. but i would look for a better priced one if that was the case.
or pass and wait for another one that was working. i guess my gripe is that i think he knew the condition and left that info out.

Here is an excerpt from my previous feedback regarding this situation.

1. I always assume anything electrical that is "unknown" is broken. It
almost always is. Actually I assume anything that is in "unknown"
condition is broken as a lot of people say "unknown" when they mean
"broken".
2. The needle is stuck at just below 3 in the original ad photos. This
is BAD:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/pix/1558093.jpg
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/pix/1558094.jpg
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/pix/1558095.jpg

One problem with doing refunds on electrical parts is how do I know you
or whoever tested it knew how to hook it up correctly? Did they
realize it was 6-volt? "No refunds on electrical parts" is the standard
even in the new parts business. But... I also would have tested the
tachometer or described it better so maybe you wouldn't have bought it
in the first place.

I say get it fixed and install it and be happy. Almost all old and used
tachometers read wrong anyway so it will be good to have it tuned anyway.

These types...?! And what does that mean?

Whatever... I have know Corey since the 5th grade. Although we haven't been in touch for a while, he was a welcome face at the Type 3 Invasion. I have done buisiness with him in the past and inquired about parts he has had and he is always been a stand up dude.

You bought an untested, unknown-condition part. I have done the same thing and been bummed when my gamble didn't pay off. I agree with Ev on this. Fix the tach and be happy (and a bit wiser).

this also refers to the statement "your asking for help and you havent even got an estimate for repairs". not sure about others but this statement leads me to believe like you said jimmy that he maybe what you said. but as mentioned no offers to help the situation came out of this. i think this could have been avoided with some of the options that i came up with. or even if corey had any. i like to think i am fair. hense why i said what i did. any of these possiblities i feel both parties would have been fine or walked away satisfied.
trust me if you were in my shoes where i just cant call him up or swing by like some of my friends i have known here since the 5th grade and talk about this. i think one may feel a bit different or slited..

You know this sort of thing always gets me. I have been in this hobby for over 20 years. I have been on this site since it's conception. Doing over 1000's of transactions and I have 1 positive feedback and 2 negative feedbacks. I guess people are just not as interested in posting about good transactions.

It is good that other people do read these posting and respond with their thoughts and feelings. It does put my mind (and karma) at ease that when I make a desicion as to how to do a deal fairly I am not alone in my thoughts. I do what I can to be as open and honest as possible, but I guess you can not please everyone all the time.

I am sorry if you do not feel the same way I do.

Positive Feedback - I just received a Type 34 top dash pad from Corey, and am very satisfied with the purchase. The item was exactly as described, shipping was quick, and communication was good. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with him again.
