I would go with a set of 56mm rear studs, small ball seat lug nuts and a set of 45mm small ball seat front lug bolts.

Thanks

Hi Guys:

Mounted up the 16" 928 wheels this week.
T3 Spacers
Running 215/55/16 97v Extra Load.

Amazing cornering and overall road handling, but that could also be because I put in all new wheel bearings, hubs etc as well.

Forgive me if I have missed it in the pages here....how would one go about determining offset on a rim if it could not be verified? For instance, I know I'm looking for a 16"X7" rim with a bolt pattern of 5X110. The bore and offset are my obstacles?

Thank you Embarassed

Determining the offset begins by measuring the overall width of the wheel from the outer edges of the rim lips. A 7" wheel will usually have an overall width of about 7.6" to 7.9". Once you know the overall width, divide that in half. This will be your wheel centerline measurement.

Then you will need to lay a straight edge across the backside of the wheel and measure down from that straight edge to the wheel/hub mating surface. This is your backspacing measurement.

Subtract the wheel centerline measurement from the backspacing measurement to determine the offset.

If you have used imperial standard for all of your measurements, you will need to convert that to millimeters at some point. Offset is always expressed in millimeters and backspacing is always expressed in inches.

Here is an example:

Overall width of the wheel = 7.75"
Divided in half to determine the wheel centerline = 3.875
Backspacing measurement = 5.06"
Subtract the wheel centerline measurement from the backspacing measurement - 5.06" - 3.875" = 1.185"
Convert to millimeters 1.185 x 25.4 = 30.10mm

This would be considered a 30mm offset.

Awesome, thanks... the search continues Smile! About the center bore, it should be what diameter?

Well, it kind of depends. For a 2wd, the lip on the front grease cap is about 64mm, so it needs to be at least that diameter. You could cut the lip off the grease caps which would drop the necessary diameter down to 60.1mm. Some people have machined the grease caps and rotors down to 57.1mm, but from what I understand, the grease caps get really thin when doing that. If you are looking to have wheels machined, I always suggest 66.56mm for several reasons.

For a Syncro, the front hub diameter is 67.08mm, but it tapers down a bit starting right at the rotor. The combination of this taper and the fact that most 66.56mm wheels have chamfer at the centerbore is how those wheels can fit a Syncro without machine work.

The rears on both 2wds and Syncros can accommodate a 57.1mm centerbore, but if you end up having wheels machined, I recommend doing all four to the same centerbore diameter so that you can swap the wheels rear to front if necessary.

Been looking for a set of wheels that I don't need to add spacers, longer bolts/ studs, etc... I found these:

They are a little too bling, but they re OEM MBZ wheels, 16x7 ET31 any chance they might fit with just a small spacer? This whole wheel figment thing makes my brain hurt. Oh yeah, I drive an '83 Westy 2WD.

Monkey, I can't look up the specs of those wheels of myself at the moment but if they are as you say, 16x7 ET31, those will fit without spacers. You will still need new lugs front and rear as well as longer rear wheel studs. In addition, the center caps won't fit.

Thanks for the help Chris. Both on here and elsewhere. I found it odd that they were ET31, still have to contact the seller to be sure. As you can see I'm still shopping around for wheels. I guess if I have to get new lugs/ studs its not the end of the world. I'm not overly concerned if the center-caps don't fit. Just want to be sure of what is involved before I drop pull the trigger on the right wheel. If these in fact are ET31 I'll be pretty happy cause the price is right.

Is that a "1"? Doesn't look like the "1" in the 16 above it.

It looks more like the '1' in the line above than the '7'...

I'm looking at these set but the seller is out of town at the moment.
I'm trying to get the specs, I've seen these set on our bus before just couldn't find it. I'm running H&R sport..looks like there's a lot of tire options
too. wonder if 215/70/15 would be ok. I know it's 15" audi wheels that's all.
What you gents think.
Thanks,
Ogi

I'm not sure that you "need" spacers,
But I am running 15x7 (though they may be 7.5?) et 35 borbets on my 2wd and I run 10mm spacers in the front.

Is that on your syncro that you're running w/out spacers?

With 2 wd, only a narrow width tire like 195 or 205, *possibly* 215 could get by without spacers, and then no tire chains could be used.

Yep! A 15x7 ET37 wheel on a 2wd will absolutely need 7mm front spacers in order for the inner wheel lip to clear the upright.

New wheels studs pressed in -Side A! One side done and one side to go. The studs are quite long to take the new MB CLK alloys but not so long that I can't still fit the stock 14" wheels and hubcaps! Have yet to buy correctly rated tires for new wheels so will likely roll on the still good 14" Wheels and Continental tires! And yes I did the brakes and trailing arm replacement at the same time. Other side to get the same treatment within the next week or so!
