I wanted a simple 5 or 7 spoke black wheel and found these. They would have bolted right up but the included rear center caps wouldn't go on without spacers. So T3 came through with 15mm spacers, longer studs and black conical lug nuts. Along with everything else to completely rebuild the suspension and reduce the roll. Thanks Christopher! Barely back on the road now but I like them so far. You can get them in silver instead and I think also 17x7. 1700lb weight rating, I've frankly no idea if that's considered acceptable but it's more than my van and dirt roads are as rough as they'll likely ever see. Fingers crossed!

Petrol P3B wheels.

After going to almost all pages of this and the what tires fit treats i'd like to share my setup. Got the steel rims from a Mercedes C class W203,

Part number 2034000302.
7Jx16 ET 37

Paid 40 euro's for 4 rims. they looked quite nice, but gave them a good wash, light sanding and a fresh spray of black high gloss paint (here in NL we have Hammerite, I think similar to Rustoleum).

For tires I chose Hankook Radial RA08 215/70 R16C 108/106T 6PR. These were about 84 euros each.
Still driving on the old and tires springs and shocks, but they have some cutting board spacer in front and back. In the front i'm about 445mm high, in the rear about 475mm.
Clearance in the front to the upper arm is about 10mm, not using any spacers so far. Use the original ball seat lugs and nuts, fitted well on the rims.
Havent tested if the spare tire fits, i'll try to report that later Cool

Hi

I found some aluminium AT Italia 6.5" x 16" ET 16.
Offset is lower than the recommended 37. I have a 2WD auto Westy, 1990, stock.
Will they fit on my van? What will the effect of the low offset be?

Cheers

Ok I had a second look, I guess this brings the wheel inboard too much?

Other way.
Outboard.

So when it's inboard a spacer can be used to reposition.
Outboard that's not possible of course.

Some have reported increased wheel bearing wear, since the balance is off.
Just how fast this occurs, I have no knowledge.

Btw, I don't believe 37 is recommended by anyone, 30 is stock as far as I know.

The stock Vanagon wheels were most often ET39 which came in all years.
Later vans ET30 were also used.
This difference was due to different tire width sizes fitted.

In other markets the 16" T3 came in ET34.

The width of the rim and the width of the tire are some of the factors that determine what ET is needed to prevent rubbing.

The ET 37 M-Benz steelies that I've been using for five or six or seven years now only need a ~1/2" spacer in the front in order for my chubby cheek 225/55R16 tires to clear the upper control arm. They don't need any spacer in the back - but I run one to move the wheel outboard and make the van look better. Cool

Realized about a year ago I got some advice from this thread and never posted a progress picture. Thanks for the help and thanks to Chris at T3 for the hardware.

Spending way too much time on this thread. Is it still alive?

Curious if instead of buying all new lugs is it more reasonable to drill the holes with a different profile? Meaning if you’re trying to switch to wheels that have round seats and you have conical hardware, could you alter the seats? Thinking of you have to get the center bore machined, this might be an easy fix. Thanks

If you're anything like my dad (a cheapskate with a tool and die shop at his disposal) you'd go the machining route while hopefully taking into account that the material removed to change the shape of the seat wouldn't result in a weaker wheel. For the rest of us, $50 in hardware seems more reasonable.

Whether or not it's feasible with a specific wheel starts with a drawing of a side-view of the shape of the seat and then drawing the result after material is removed to achieve the desired shape.

Hi

I found these, from a 2001 Mercedes E320. 16", ET 41.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Would they fit a stock 2WD Westfalia (auto)? I understand I would need some spacers.

Thanks

I have steel rims on now and I am switching to alloys and General Grabbers. Do I need to change all lug nuts for this switch?

Pictured is what I have on now

Thanks

Yeah I think the alloys take conical and the steelies are ball seat.

I think, I'm not sure.

Yes, that's the right hardware for the OEM Vanagon alloy wheels.
