Today I finally got my 57 Kombi Snowflake back on the road! Man it felt great...

I found the bus four years ago in a junk yard in Little Rock CA in the upper Mojave. The owner passed away and hios wife gave it to the scrap yard. It was in line to be crushed when I found it. Over the years I did quite a bit of work including engine and trans ( I had a shop rebuild the trans).

Several weeks ago I started Snowflake up and she ran crappy made a puffing sound in one cylinder like it was loosing compression but when tested it came out 120 psi all around. I had forgotten that there were new rings and a valve job on the head - turns out they just needed to be worked in.

It was really cool to drive old Snowflake with the orignal size 36 horse engine not very fast but very nostalgic. The final capper was being able to start the engine with the original hand crank! made quite a scene in the local market parking lot!!!

Snowflake has gotten her name from the cracked inner laminated glass onthe passenger side front slider. It sat in the desert unused for many years like 25-and I suspect that the sun bubbled the glass. But instead of being ugly and unsightly the bubbleing made two perfect snowflake patterns. She's a very old lady but she is a real beauty to me!
