Are you kidding? This is a great thread!

I am a little sad that I paid so much for my '58 bug though. I paid $1,700.00 for it.

I probably shoulda got it for nothin or close to it. I found a '64 daily driver for $1,600, but it drove away 10 minutes before I called to make my offer. . . So this guy had put $2,500.00 into it that I wouldn't have to so I thought I was getting a killer deal. It is still a long way from being ready to drive though. It looks rough, but has 3k miles on a rebuilt engine and new tires and EMPI wheels. He also put a grand into new upholstery. . .

I bought a 73 super for $500. I then put $1500 into a new top end on the motor and heater boxes, exhaust etc,. Then another 150 in tuneups (to get my warranty) then another $400 in new electrical system, and starter motor. about $750 in stereo. That all adds up to..... wishing I had an earlier model with less rust. But seriously, when i bought the car and started the project I knew nothing, now althought i have ended up spending a bunch more money it seems i should have. I ahve learned alot. And now when i find myself the one i want I will have a motor for it. and hey fat chix aren't THAT bad.

You lucky West Coast bastards. Here in Iowa it takes a LOT of searching to find *any* ACVW with reasonable rust for under $4000.

My Thing was $3500. Decent price for a solid VW with good brakes, good engine, and low rust in this area.

There is my girl (my avatar), and I found her on E-Bay. I ended up paying $3800 for her and she is worth every last penny too! She was born in 1980. What a great find!

1971 Westy - $50.00 .... and I did not over pay (seized engine, trashed interior, plenty o' midwest rust). several gallons of body filler and an engine had a respectable ride. this was 15 years ago.

1976 Westy - $3,000 - look ma no rust! (well almost)

I paid $1,000 even for my customized '67 bug... but then I also paid $300 in back registration plus current registration and had $1300 of repair work done to it to get it legal and roadworthy again.

'67 bug, missouri, $1500. It was almost rust-free so i guess it's a good price, as 90% of all bugs in missouri are all rusted out at the bottom.

72 super - inherited from Dad. drove less than a year and totaled it.

85 golf - 2800 in 1992 2 door sunroof. Sold last year? or year before for 600. I haven't seen it on the road, makes me sad.

66 beetle - 2810 won on ebay in 2000. I beat someone out at the last minute by 10 bucks. Sorry dude. Engine rebuilt and some minor odds and ends to get it to pass inspection in MD and been driving it since.

Ummmm....

I have to add to my earlier post. $1,000 purchase price plus $2,000 to get her safe and legal again.

Back registration, total brake replacement, fuel line replacement, electrical system restored to stock, turnsignals replaced and wired in.

Oh, the amount I paid for the hulks in my yard is "undisclosed". Bought my Bus for $500 (I still owe the guy), but it came with an extra windshield and some misc parts that are brand new. Needs and engine, but it's solid, so who cares?

I paid $1900...same day, motor blew.....spent another $400 on a new 1600....

Went and spent more money on Porsche stuff.....

Alot of people say I paid too much...but considering what I'm doing (replacing everything, but still use it for a daily driver)...I think I did OK.

I'm spending money on this car before I have it, lol. "Welcome to the world of VW..."
