Hi everyone,
Well, I thought I would share what surprises found inside and outside the old Van. Planned for the worst and I got it
Here it goes:
The mostly Empty Tiki ( now all is out except the dash, which in next!!):
The Galley rust and rust holes:
The Window rust, which is going to drive this boy nuts, note how the seam rust has creeped up to the mid bar!
What I did this past summer in the engine bay:
Did ALOT of work!!!!
More Rust, a common area:
This pic shows the Mouse House that was under the Galley:
Front nose holes:
Well you get the idea of what I've got going on!
Just wanted to share what Tiki is up to and with her usual bag of Gremlins!
What lurks underneath (suspension, etc.) will be shown soon... _________________ Happy Trails!

Emmm, the engine is clean.
I see it was painted white, like I like them. Are you going to return it to the original color? Or are you going to finish gutting it and paint it all white??? _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

Man, at this point I think I'd be looking for another body with a blown motor to put that clean motor into, good luck, truly a labor of love.... |

Yes, it is going to be a TON on work, but it is worth it
I get to learn and re-learn joys of welding and when all is said and done, the Beast will be good for another 22 years.
Thank Joe T. on the pics. My French is a wee bit rusty (HA HA) but that is what Tiki is going to get.
The Zinc Chromate Primer is wonder stuff, not for breathing in however.
I do have Potassium Dichromate for Photographic purposes, I wonder if that can be used as well?
What is that saying.... It is always the Darkest before the Dawn? _________________ Happy Trails!

Hey crukcab,
The Van has lived in Mass for its long happy mile crunching life until meeting this Nut Case. So now I get to undo the disrespect and neglect the Van got for many years.
It has traveled many miles (reciepts of repair from CA in the 90's). 198K on the clock.
She's the village bicycle...
Bill W, I'll PM you. I've got a few places on tap for the window skin but I'm waiting till after the Holidays. Thank you for the offer... Samba rules!
For now, I've been grinding and grinding and grinding......Swearing and grinding grinding.... Sanding sanding, scraping and scraping and swearing (ALOT) _________________ Happy Trails!

We've got SO many unrusted straight shells out here. Sure wish we could teleport them. It still costs like $400-$600 to send one out East. We sent a nice straight 85 shell to the beer can factory last year.
BTW: We do NOT have Westy shells though. They tend to keep getting fixed. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!
