I searched, and could not find the answer. I apologize if this question is redundant.

I need to replace the heater boxes on my '69. How different are they from the Beetle's as far as size wise? Also, does anyone know who sells the highest quality ones? I don't want to have to replace them again.

Thanks for the info.

beetle and bus. type 1 1200 to 1600 engine the heater boxes are the same. you'd be best off trying to source some really good original ones if you can. the latest aftermarket/ brazilian/mexican ones have less aluminium fins inside and therefore produce less heat.

the difference between bus and bug heater boxes are where the heater control cables attach, all else fails use bailing wire and just wire the bug boxes wide open. the bug boxes have the attachment at the bottom and the bus boxes are at the top since the cables come oput of the bus much higher.

they make a universal style box with both bug and bus attachments, so you just adapt the correct linkage for your application.
