Only reason you see the red overspray on the manifold is because he rattle canned the manifold silver prior to the in situ painting of the shroud and pulley. The rattle can clear is peeling off the back end too. Embarassed

So I don't get it, they wouldn't let you keep it or buy it back, or you just didn't want it? Was it so beyond repair it wasn't worth keeping? Just wondering. You put so much time and energy, and parts into it, and adventures, I thought you would have been willing to try and get it back.
Long Live the Ghia Pet!!

It bent the shell enough that the passenger door wouldn’t open & the driver door wouldn’t close. EVERYTHING, that I installed was removed, with the exception of new pans, brake master cylinder, torsion housing truss, miata seats & a ragged Formuling steering wheel. Whoever gets it is gonna be upset. It’ll be fun if they show up here. Twisted Evil

It could have been repaired, but I wouldn’t have paid for that amount of work. I could have done a re-shell, but then I’d still have to deal with the DMV & it still would have had a salvage title, all the shit everyone wants to whine about first. I just decided to go grab another project to dive into instead.

The only Thing in the history of the world lifted with parts scavenged from a Ghia.

Sounds like you did the right thing <-- Pun intended. I guess you grabbed what you could and transferred over to the Warthog! Love the name. I guess I'll have to peek over at the Thing forum to follow your adventures there. At least the Warthog looks to be more suited to your off road adventures, though won't be as fun on the dirt tracks, unless you fix a solid roll cage, just in case.

Thanks for the backstory,
Jeff

That just sucks about Ghiapet. What sort of asshat put their car in reverse and guns it at an intersection?

A non rusty Ghia convertible plus running for $15-$20k? Good luck with that.

Ah that's Pete Morley, nice man, real enthusiast but he's also a businessman so he'll always be looking for the best price. I'm sure he knows the market so I wouldn't call him naive. Smile

Last year I helped a friend sell his 68 Ghia cabriolet. It was a really nice driver and well taken care of. No visible rust that I could see, and I looked in all the usual places. The paint had a few chips, but was really nice. We sold it for $20k . So you can still find good cabriolets in that range, you just have to be really patient and lucky Very Happy

60 front clip or 60 on a 63 pan?

That wide-track rear hints to a '67 transaxle. Looks out of place on a narrow-track '63, as does the '70/'71 rear bumper. But few people would notice, along with the '60 gas tank that Brau mentioned. No manual choke knob above the ignition switch, so likely not a '60 body.

I’m thinking 60 clip, look at the later fuse box sitting in there.

...and who paints the air cleaner set up bright RED.

Nobody ever thought the aircleaner a thing of beauty, worthy of making a feature, it looks MASSIVE.

That was probably done to distract discerning viewers from mundane issues such as the deck lid seal. On a positive note: the car does have the roomiest glovebox I've seen on a Ghia. Cool

Check out this "project" for $18K without a pink slip. You think for that kind of cash you would get a title!
