Maybe Randy is NOT on to something as Kingkarmann points out. Maybe he is just dumb and asking way, way too much for an inferior Karmann Ghia. Just because he sells higher priced cars......doesnt mean he has established the market for the same. Maybe he is just pushing the envelope with his price. From what I know, he doesnt even own the cars, he just puts on the price that the owner wants. Seems like he takes all that are offered up. I say he is doing our market an injustice by calling it what it is not. |

I will bet that Randy is not the first one offered this Ghia at a high price others would not even touch. Nice cars come his way and he profits off of them. So be it! But this Ghia for $168,000 is just stupid. Nothing about it is concours or nothing about it is factory. It is a RESTO MOD!!!! Now, call it what it is, and maybe that crowd will buy it. They have plenty of money. |

look at the last page in this thread, he was asking 168,000. |
I would think Randy reads these posts as well as his client/s.
His client seems to be rightfully proud of their Ghia as they should be.
Randy accepted the job of marketing and selling for a price they both think is potentially attainable.
Oldbug likely networks with potential buyers that have the means.
When you have an exceptional example of well, anything, you should want to get top dollar.
This Ghia along with a handful of others IMO is exceptional.
Is this KG $150k exceptional? It might be. If so there should be a few ecstatic Ghia owners. _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

I'm fairly sure that's the same one Oldbug has listed.
So yes, it's at least as nice _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

Look similar.....yet I restored the 1958, body number 356, 15 years ago. Lost track of it after it sold at an art auction in LA for a paltry $85k approximately 7 years ago. _________________ Transporter Restorations

Is it beautiful ?.....YES.......Is it restored ? NO.......... Many, many things are not how it left the factory. Not a $150,000 car if restoration is on your mind. |

Ok, ok, yes - it's museum quality, concours-this and concours-that, but...
$168,000??!!
Maybe Randy is going, going, gone...

Concours? Will you or I mark him down for body colour outer rims, front carpet, blue cloisonné badge on a '59 and non-spec overpricing. |
Randy likes to throw that term around, but I wonder if he knows what it means. In addition to what you guys mentioned, how about no rubber mats on the floor, no dash pad, stitched vs heat seamed puffy door panels done in the wrong vinyl, Wolfsburgwest Okrasa kit not original Okrasa kit, tunnel trans vs split case, headliner has unsightly wrinkles and for some odd reason exposes the frame.
It’s a nice car, but far from top level let alone concours. |
I looked at the photo's on my big screen.
Nut and bolt details are great. Some of the gaps are off along with other issues as mentioned.
Not a big deal if your asking price aligns with what is being offered.
It becomes a real big deal when what you're asking for is close to a record price.
For $168K it should the best lo-light or better on the planet.
If it does indeed go for a mid 6 figure price I will be more than astounded.
The price guides value early cabs in concours condition in the low 6 figure range.
Maybe Randy is on to something. There's nothing preventing him and his customer from asking whatever figure they want.
Lets compare to some truly remarkable member Ghia's.
IMO these are among the best lo-lights on the planet.

What is your definition of restored? Is it not restored because of the synchro tranny and Okrassa kit? _________________ '58 Ghia 2387cc with a Berg / Folts 5 Speed

Ok, Randy is coming back down to earth.
Normally, I would get excited about a $38,000 discount.
But, still... $130,000 is well, just - argghhh.

For that price it should have the correct floor mats, properly painted access plates in the trunk, and some panels in the engine compartment. Also a glove box not made of plastic would be nice. _________________ - better to drive a slow car fast than fast car slow - |
