This guy is out of his damn mind.
$25k for a non-running project car? This guy has to have accidentally added an extra zero.

I received this little tidbit from our good friend ghiagirl.
Bonhams auctioned a “hybrid” coupe.
It made $70,000 included the buyer’s premium.
Yes those are five zero’s after the seven Shocked
The rub is it’s a 68 body on a 61 pan with a grafted early dash.
Call me blown away!

Looks like a $15k Ghia you’d buy out of the classifieds. Unbelievable.

Definitely its a mind blower. People that buy cars that appear perfect and shiny on the surface with no regard to quality either don't care or are ignorant.

A Ghia that valuable deserves a decklid like this:

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2598301

Maybe he could get his asking price at the same auction the Ghia above was sold at?

I've got an early 60's decklid showing less rust damage than this one, perhaps I should price it accordingly if this is the new 'market price'!! Laughing Laughing

I really hope that turquoise Ghia isn’t the shape of things to come.

Once the car prices go up, you get classic car tax on all the new parts from suppliers and worse, ‘OEM’ parts go through the roof.

Speculators who have no idea about the cars or our love for them, make them bargaining chips and take them out of reach for many of us.

My first 912 I bought for $2k. The next $5k and my current an eye watering $32k.

I’m enjoying working on the Ghia, as part prices are in the level where the wife doesn’t kill me when the credit card statement comes each month, where as it’s almost as difficult as getting a law through congress for me to buy the most basic of parts for the Porsche. Maybe they just got too rich for me.

It certainly has tainted my love for the car as I can’t enjoy playing with it in the same way I am now with my Ghia.

I guess the only good thing to come out of it, is when the fad is over, many cars have been saved because of their transitional increase and then decrease in price. And hopefully not too many have been killed by bondo and blow-over paint jobs.

I'm not entirely sure if these two coming to auction are actually overpriced or an indication of things to come.

This one looks very familiar.

Both are nice cars. If you bought a project you’d be in it for more than the estimated price. Not that that means much anymore.

That lowlight looks amazing.
Real poster car.

Still more money than I would be willing (or able) to pay.

Though in this market, I think the guide price of £20 - £28k is a little under market.

I didn’t realize that Ghias ever came in Agave green. Even South African ones!

Edit: dang, I’ve posted in the wrong section! Sorry!!!

Pretty.
The description mentioned it needs some sort of paperwork that the vendor has applied for.

"*Interested parties should note that this vehicle is not currently sold with a V5 registration document. However, one has been applied for by the vendor with the DVLA and should arrive in due course."

Not sure what this is but maybe that's affecting the valuation?

It says it was imported from South Africa in 2019. From the licence plates it looks like is hasn't been registered in the UK. Shouldn't be a problem; they say the V5 registration document has been applied for.

From the picture and video it looks like it lives in my area.

It has those added reflectors that seem to be mandated by the South African Authorities supporting the story that it came from South Africa. however, South Africa is left hand traffic and the car shows the steering on the opposite side for that. I suspect the car transited South Africa from elsewhere before arriving in the UK.

As far as I know, there were no factory RHD Lowlights.
